And for reference, seems like smaller schools in more remote locations can pack the house better than large schools from larger communities. People still must travel from all 16 regions.

From an arena perspective, things couldn’t have gone any better at NKU, Tackett said. The local community could have done more to support the event, though, something that organizers recognized and are already trying to plan for 2017. The event site will be back up for bid after that.

 

“What we have to do now is get the community to engage, get the restaurants involved, get the hotels to come off the prices they charged and realize that they can do better about filling themselves up with a lesser rate,” Tackett said. “ … That’s the job of the local community because it’s theirs to lose. We’re gonna have a tournament, we’ve got sites wanting it. So we have alternatives. It’s their job, not the KHSAA’s to get into a bunch of promotion. We’ll see how it goes.”

Someone from the Convention and Visitors Bureau needs to do an economic impact study from this past years tournament and see how much cash was infused from the traveling teams and build from there. I know the title sponsorship from St. Elizabeth will be there as our CEO said as long as the tournament is in NKY, that we will sponsor it. Gotta think C&VB would be reaching out to each team around region time and promoting what the area has.

There needs to be newspaper and TV coverage. Those are the things the KHSAA needs to work on. I know that the Bluegrass/Buckeye does run radio spots when it's time for that. The caviet (sp?) for that is that as long as CovCath is in it, They will get a reduced radio rate with Joe Frederick coaching there and running sales at IHeartMedia. Need to do something along those lines.

NKU has pretty good sports business program. Sounds like a good assignment for senior students in the program.

You have got to be kidding KHSAA. A private industry CEO would be terminated with this perspective. Got to put major blame on KHSAA Board if they allow this mentality to germinate.

And I believe that is exactly the mentality that the KHSAA has migrated toward under this Commissioner. Former Commissioner Stout was a leader that expounded excellence, not put on the Sweet Sixteens and their success is not our responsibility. No leadership worth a hoot focuses on implementation and the results are the results. Excellence has to be the goal and the strategy focuses on how we get nothing less than those results.

When I read Tackett's comments, my first reaction was they can't wait to get out of NKY.
