Let me blow our own horn here for a second.

Twice, we (Brossart) have hosted the 10th Region All "A" Classic at Regents Hall at NKU - 2011 and 2014.

 

On both occasions we secured a title sponsor, businesses to sponsor our hospitality room (which was first-class all the way), published a full-blown full-color program, created a logo and sold T-Shirts. We also negotiated with NKU to pay for the parking fees. Cheerleaders threw sponsored up T-Shirts into the crowd with each 3-pointer made. Gatorade and Pizza was supplied to each team following their game, and we broadcast each and every game live (and archived) over the internet.

 

The 10th Region All "A" Classic is a lot more insignificant than the Girls Sweet 16 Tournament, but we had ambitious people who got out and made it happen. If you ask those participants how we did, I'm sure we would get high marks.

 

Pointing fingers at each other isn't going to solve anything, and unfortunately the fate of the tournament at BB&T beyond next year has probably already been decided. The KHSAA claims it's not their job, and since they have other suitors, it probably isn't. Possession is 90% of the law. Holding it at the BB&T into the future has to be important to someone. Build it and they will come didn't work. The Kentucky Derby is not just a two minute race conducted at Churchill Downs on the first Saturday of May. The entire city of Louisville gets involved as well as the State of Kentucky. If they didn't maybe Indianapolis would do a better job and it would move to Indiana Downs.

 

Somebody worked hard (Stan and Others) to get this tournament to come here, but unfortunately it was conducted as a private party. Hopefully, it isn't too late, but if we want to keep it, someone or someones need to get busy promoting the event, making it memorable for the players, staff, and admins, and wow the KHSAA. Visibility and publicity are everything and this should be being discussed in City Council chambers and with those who promote tourism here in Northern Kentucky.

 

If we can do it, certainly a committee of like-minded members of the community can do it.

The KHSAA job is to run a state basketball tournament, nothing more.

 

I think that's a very poor take...the State Tournaments should be a big event for the KHSAA...Not just another set of tournament brackets. If that's the thought, then just designate a host school and play the games at the biggest gym in each region in rotation.

I do not think it is the KHSAA's job to physically promote the event outside of the arena. They have said as much, so that is not going to change. The day following the event they head back to Lexington and conduct business from the KHSAA offices until the next state championships come up.

Someone has to pay for that study, who should it be?

WKU has proved that it doesn't have to have local "homer" teams to get good attendance. The people in the area love their girls basketball, and look forward to "Getting back to Diddle". On the other hand, the big city atmosphere of N Ky, may have too many options for people to do with their lives, and girls basketball isn't top priority.

Bottom line, get the people up there to watch games, and quit finger pointing who should shoulder the blame. It is nothing but economics, and Tackett will not lose money in choosing a home for the girls. As I said before, I attended 9+ straight years at WKU, having to drive 1 hour 10 minutes. No one I know here that didn't have a kid playing went up there, as a 2 hour 35 min drive is asking too much. It has to be the local people who attend, and a few of you brag about your big population base. Why the poor attendance, outside of a local homer game? Obviously, you failed, Tackett has spoken!!

To your bolded ... I believe what the dissenting majority in this thread are saying is that the event was not promoted, therefore many "casual" fans didn't even know it was occurring. There was NOTHING .. no media, no signs, no ancillary events, the "sponsoring" entity didn't push the event ... NOTHING.

 

IF the event had been promoted, more would have attended and seen what a great event it is (as you know). Momentum would build over the years (as I'm sure occurred at WKU), and it would get legs. Now, it will probably be a limited two-year run, and people will say N Ky can't support an event like this. I don't know who is to blame (it probably can be shared by many), but ZERO promotion was a major contributing factor. justsayin

Even with all that, the All A Region Classic at NKU was bad for everyone besides Bishop Brossart. The Girls State tournament got lucky the host county made a deep run.

The KHSAA should not promote the event, the host community should because of all the money that gets spent there.

To me, it makes so much sense to have it at Memorial Coliseum.

Here is a problem for Tackett;

"Total attendance for last week’s St. Elizabeth Healthcare/KHSAA Girls Sweet 16 at Northern Kentucky University’s BB&T Arena was 31,947, down nearly 17 percent from the mark of 38,489 that attended the 2015 event at Western Kentucky University’s E.A. Diddle Arena".

We will have to wait till next year, and see what teams advance, which will directly affect the attendance figures greatly. As Tackett has said repeatedly, attendance is just one factor, others include how the hotels set their prices to the event. Traveling families will not fork out 135 per night especially now since the games have been spread out through Sunday.

Even with all that, the All A Region Classic at NKU was bad for everyone besides Bishop Brossart. The Girls State tournament got lucky the host county made a deep run.

 

Again, I'm seeing this through my green shaded glasses. While you are never going to make everyone happy - this was as good as it can possibly get for a 10th Region "A" Tournament. We have advantages here in NoKy (businesses and facilities) here that do not exist in Brooksville, Mount Olivet, Carlisle, and even to some degree Paris.

 

Compare the amenities offered by BBHS hosting the tournament at NKU compared to those offered at the above sites. No Contest!!!

 

Do we want to host the tournament every year - Certainly not!!!

Since it was stated that several venues are interested in hosting this event, does hat mean that NKU made an impressive effort to get it? If NKU had to "try really hard" to get this event, then that actually surprises me. I've never gotten the impression that they are excited to have high school basketball in their gym.
