January 21, 201610 yr From the Article: The state Senate passed an abortion-related measure by a 32-5 vote requiring a face-to-face meeting between the pregnant woman and a healthcare provider at least 24 hours before an abortion takes place. http://www.lanereport.com/59259/2016/01/ky-senate-approves-bill-requiring-face-to-face-consultation-before-an-abortion/
January 21, 201610 yr What is supposed to happen during that face-to-face meeting? It's essentially an informed consent revision. Kentucky already has a law that says any doctor performing an abortion has to inform the woman about the procedure itself and any potential risks associated with it at least 24 hours before. The difference is that the information can currently be given via a telephone conversation or even a message. This bill says that meeting must be face-to-face with either the doctor or a person designated for the task by the doctor.

Does the state screen these doctors or people who are meeting to determine whether they are pro-life or pro-choice?
January 21, 201610 yr Does the state screen these doctors or people who are meeting to determine whether they are pro-life or pro-choice? I think you know that answer.
January 21, 201610 yr Does the state screen these doctors or people who are meeting to determine whether they are pro-life or pro-choice? Well the initial doctor is the one already performing the procedure so I think we can be fairly certain where he or she stands on that. As for the designees, they'll be appointed by the doctors themselves so I don't know how'd they'd be anything other than what the doctor wants them to be. I don't believe the state has any mechanism for checking up on who any of them are or their beliefs on the issue.
January 21, 201610 yr This legislation has me wondering if some politicians think a woman just wakes up and says I think I'll have an abortion today without any thought whatsoever.
January 21, 201610 yr I don't see the purpose if there is already a requirement to discuss the procedure.
January 21, 201610 yr Since Kentucky is fairly new to the Red State Society, it has some catching up to do in the areas of anti-abortion and anti-union legislation.
January 21, 201610 yr Since Kentucky is fairly new to the Red State Society, it has some catching up to do in the areas of anti-abortion and anti-union legislation. And it cant happen quick enough. Reasonable regulations on a "constitutionally" guaranteed right shouldn't be a problem should it?
January 21, 201610 yr Meanwhile how's that "fixing the pension system" working? It may take a while, Stevie and the boys put it so far on the back burner it'll take time for it to warm up.
January 21, 201610 yr I don't see the purpose if there is already a requirement to discuss the procedure. I think it's to ensure that they actually have someone face to face to talk to and to ask questions...not just watch a pre-recorded video, as I think some were doing.

You would be amazed. I served on the board of a charity that serves and supports women who make the choice to have their child. Many of these women have had abortions before and often comment that they put no thought into it. They were just pressured by family or more likely the father to just get rid of the kid so they went through the abortion virtually thoughtless. Serving on that board really opened my eyes.
