January 16, 201610 yr Anyone plan on seeing The Revenant? Just got home from seeing it...Really good movie...not for the weak of stomach or anyone that ate BBQ just before going to see it. I see why it is up for so many Oscars, visually stunning and well acted.
January 16, 201610 yr Author I can't wait to see it.I think you'll like it. The bear attack is pretty much what you'd expect a momma grizzly to do...Dude was tough on tough. The fact that this is based on a true story, that some version of this actually happened to a man and he survived is amazing.
January 16, 201610 yr Based on same events that Man in the Wildnerness with Richard Harris was based on, I believe. I plan on seeing it.

Not much is actually known about Hugh Glass.

Quite a bit is known about Jim Bridger though, I wonder how much of this story was passed down by him? I think it is widely accepted that he was attacked by a bear, left for dead and then survived. I don't think he got any movie type revenge either.

It would be cool if this was what happened.
January 22, 201610 yr Saw it last night and thought it was very good. Having read the book, there was really no super surprises. As said before, not much is known about Glass but he did not have a son with him on the trip if he even had children. He also didn't kill Fitzgerald but did find both Bridger and Fitzgerald and did not kill either for leaving him to die. Fitzgerald was a soldier by the time Glass found him and he would have been tried and convited mroe than likely for killing him. The bear incident appears to be true. Bridger does not talk much about Glass in his stories. Bridger was a master story teller that loved to stretch the truth a little (no a lot). Therefore, who knows what he said about Glass and what was true that he said. he certainly did not document anything because he was illiterate. By all accounts. though, Bridger was a great guy that knew that part of the country as well as anyone. Only the Mormons hated him, but that's another story.
February 2, 201610 yr Saw it yesterday. Great movie and I can see why it has garnered so many Academy Award nominations. Would just about bet the farm that Leo wins for Best Actor, and if Tom Hardy can overcome the sentimental impact on voters of Sylvester Stallone in Creed, he could possibly win Best Supporting Actor. He did a fantastic job playing a bad guy, which is sometimes more difficult than playing the good guy. I didn't realize he was British until I googled his bio. The kid that played Bridger is also British. Those Brits are better at mastering the American accent for TV and movies than Americans are at doing the British accent, imo.
February 6, 201610 yr I just saw it last night. I love it. Even though I'm 100% convinced that the movie was made to make me feel like a giant wuss. Looking at Leo's disgusting chapped lips at the end made me go "I wouldn't make it. No toothpaste and chap stick ... I'd go insane". Awesome movie and I would recommend it to anyone.
February 7, 201610 yr My cousin couldn't understand why Glass ate the raw bison meat when there were two fires burning at the site. I told him I suppose that he was so hungry and weak that he couldn't wait to cook the meat. I dunno, it's just a movie, lol. He also had one of the highest pain thresholds in the history of mankind. He survived Indian attacks, bear attacks, falls from cliffs, etc, and was riding a horse or navigating snowpack mountain country in a matter of days. But again, it's only a movie, and a very entertaining one at that.

Trade off is the hardships take the toll as early exits for those hardy souls. I need to see this movie before it's taken out of theatres.
