Donald Trump = George Wallace

Featured Replies

My goal. Get past the shock of comparing him to a world-class racist and look at the actual debate. Then if you disagree, fine. You considered the real debate.

As I always tell people and just told MTGL this week: I could not care less what your opinion is in a debate. I just want it to have some thought and logic behind it.

I think the problem some are having is you are acting like this is unique to Trump or that he is playing to fear on a larger scale than other politicians. Democrats running on the war on women or minorities is every bit a scare tactic on par with Trump and maybe worse.

1. Already said fear is a common strategy. Not the debate.

2. IMO Trump does it on a MUCH LARGER scale than any others and it's his main strategy.

3. War on women is a strategy but it's not like #2 above.

I believe the thread is comparing Trump to Wallace, not Obama-Democrats. maybe that is another thread and fine to debate, but I focused on the strategies/tactics.

I know, some just can't help themselves.

American values is a code word? In what world?

The problem is there are real examples of code words it's just over used hyperbole to attach to someone who you disagree with. Make America Great Again is no more a code word than Hope and Change. They both have the same message , each candidate just has different ideas on how to get there.

American values is absolutely code. To you? Does it hit you like it does others who hear it differently? I will assume not. That's the thing with code words. They are only recognized and received AS INTENDED by a certain segment.

You and I hear "right wing" and we think "very conservative." Some hear "right wing" and they hear "rich WHITE guy who hates us." Code words used effectively.

A code word has to have intent from the person saying it , and not some perceived intent by another party. That is the problem with code words being misused. So yes we disagree on this.

There's a lot of fear and hate on both sides.

Some pols are "better" at using it than others.

" Boo" and " USA " are nasty code words to Wisc democrats . Clyde if you are so sensitive that you see calling Obama a food stamp prez when the facts show he has exploded the program you might be too sensitive .. If American values just causes hives to break out , you might be too sensitive . And if right wing scares you , well , you just might be to sensitive . Your comments are comical and sad at the same time . How polarized our citizens have become . Searching to be offended .

If you were just commenting on the general populace and not your own views I apologize .

Hillary Clinton slogan

Hillary for America

Decoded means

I want to rob America, be the Queen, and make it worse for you than it is now.

Yeah, Hillary for America

Code Word:

a word used for secrecy or convenience instead of the usual name for something

This is the definition I found and unless you are saying politicians who use the term American Values have a secret meaning , we disagree. For it to be a code word intent has to come from the speaker and not perceived slight from recipient .

Folks' date=' this thread is simply about campaign strategy in regards to style. I am NOT comparing policies. I am not comparing Trump's potential success as a POTUS to any other candidate nor past POTUS. Let's keep it focused.[/quote']

America is begging for a leader, we got a good story time teller in Obama, now people are demanding leadership. Its why Trump is still in it and doing so well.

Rachel Maddow brought this comparison up the other night. Similar campaign styles, no doubt. The comparison has merit.

It's interesting to see people gloss over the fact that all the candidates are doing the same thing in the same way. They're just playing to different audiences and fears. The democrats war on women, war on the poor, war on minorities, etc. is exactly the same thing as Don's war on American or whatever you want to term it. Why single out Trump?

Anything that comes out of her mouth is about as much garbage and hate as it is from Hillary.

Is Trump playing on national security fears? Or race fears?

How is he polling among Independents? And more importantly how is he polling among Democrats, if that polling has been done?
