Why is it so hard for basketball officials to just call the game instead of becoming part of it?

Why is it so hard for basketball officials to just call the game instead of becoming part of it?

Seems to be an ongoing problem at all levels.

It's a joke. I see the same things going on in football as well, especially at the high school. Just tick-tacky calls that you could call every snap...looking for stuff.

I'm thinking if I was the coach they would have been shooting a few more technical foul shots!!

Wow. That's all I can say about this one.

A team hit a game-winning buzzer beater. Players ran on the court to celebrate (after the buzzer). The referees gave them a technical foul for celebrating and they lost when the other team hit the free throws. Unbelievable.

Conference Suspends Referees Who Called Technical Foul On Team For Celebrating Buzzer-Beater

Conference should have announced that the team that celebrated won as the game ended at the buzzer.

This thread reminds me that there is a Twitter account you all need to follow (if you aren't already): @RefDougShows. It's a fake account, but makes me laugh.

This.

But more this. :lol2:

How is that even legal? The game was over?

I could see calling a T if the players celebrating in anyway impeded the other team from in bounding the ball. But the other team was just standing in shock...zero reason to call a T in this case.

Thread is misleading, the ball went in with about half a second left on the clock, players left the bench, thats a T. Game wasnt over yet.

But the clock was at zero and the horn sounded.

Watch the clock and when the ball went in, .5 left on the clock.

If there was time left on the clock, it's absolutely a technical.

Is the clock supposed to stop after the made basket? If not, I see no reason for the tech being called.

I see that, but the clock went to zero and the horn sounded.
