Just to add some clarity to this: the officials didn't penalize the team running onto the court, they penalized the fans for interference. Since the NCAA has placed court storming as a point of emphasis for the safety of all involved, I can certainly see why the officials applied the technical foul. Given that the fans entered the court during live ball play, this is the correct rule interpretation, just misapplied and the crew is penalized for it.

 

Shoe meet other foot: Fans storm the court, visiting team member gets trucked at division line and injuried, officials do nothing....

 

Do we suspend the AD for not maintaining control of fans ? That is a pure game management issue and a serious concern for any visiting team or officials in that situation....

I can't even wrap my head around the fact that some people agree with the refs. It's just simple common sense here. It's not hard. A technical foul is absurd for the 1329129121 reasons that have already been mentioned.

I started reading the thread before looking at the video. I was actually ready to agree with you because you said the T was issued because fans were on the floor. Then I watched the video and read the link in #91.

 

The fans didn't rush the floor and the opposing coach says that he "put the bug in the refs ear" to call the T because there were hundreds of fans on the floor. That's absurd.

 

I'll re-phrase my last post. Those 3 particular officials are idiots.

How can a official at that level allow a coach to "put a bug in his ear"? Common sense wins more than it loses. If the officials are that easily swayed they need to stay at the varsity level. The so called hundreds of fans rushing the court (looked like less than fifty), got off the court pretty quickly once they realized the official was telling them to.

Yep. Of course these officials, as is almost always the case, wanted to be the star of the show. Now they're out of work for a while. All could've been avoided had they just exercised even the slightest bit of common sense.

They did not look like they really wanted to but felt like they had to. Again, I don't agree that they should have and wish they did not, but I don't get how you can possibly think they wanted to be the star of the show or that refs "almost always" want to be the star of the show. I know some refs and that statement could not be further from the truth.

Social media just allows for easy targeting and arm chairing by those with better judgement….in the gym you have to show your face so everyone knows what you're about :lol2:

I have no clue why you continue to act like the refs weren't wrong ? They were suspended for a reason. Conference usually protect refs. For them to suspend for a wrong call amplifies the miss.

Last comment had nothing to do with these particular referees being suspended, at all…..I thought we covered this already earlier in the week ?

The comment is purely directed toward the ease of being critical, after the fact, of any official, in any sport, in particular on social media, by those that are not officials.

 

Why is THAT so hard to accept ?

 

For the record, I will continue to post up here as long as anyone wants to….makes no difference to me one way or the other….
