They could and should have cleared the floor and let the other team inbound for that .4 seconds. No technical necessary. They earned that suspension.

 

You have no way of knowing this...do you know if the bench had been previously warned ? Do you know if there were dead ball interuptions previously addressed ? Do you know what issues may have existed between officials / coaches prior to the dead ball penalty ?

 

Let's try not to be closed minded just because we have the benefit of video and a team that somehow snatched defeat from the jaws of victory....no official has the ability to set aside a rule...fans want the rules enforced, don't they ?

First of all, I don't disagree that there was another way to do this...however, you didn't answer my original question: Do we know what happened the other 39 minutes, 59.6 seconds prior to this so that the officials may have made that call ?

 

Secondly, "misapplication of the rules" is a term used when an official follows the rule book, but someone has a different opinion about how they "should" have handled the situation. 100% of the time this is in hindsight.

 

It is always much easier for anyone to find fault with "misapplied" rules and what could or would have happened...that does not always mean that the spirit of the rule was violated or that the officials were wrong.

It doesn't mean these officials are terrible or that they should be banned from officiating forever and ever amen. It just means they messed up in this particular instance.

Yes we do know this. It doesn't matter if the bench had been warned. Heck, it doesn't matter if 5 players were ejected for fighting. The horn sounded, the light came on around the glass and the players celebrated a 30-foot game-winner. That's what happens.

 

Receiving a technical foul for showing emotion at the buzzer is perhaps the dumbest thing I've ever seen.

I still don't see why it matters at all. Let's say the bench had been warned previously about staying seated or whatever. It still doesn't change the fact that the players left the bench because the horn had sounded and there was no time on the clock.

Game was not over .4 seconds left. Clock stops on made bucket in college. No way they could reverse the refs decision even though it would have been the right thing to do.

There weren't but then there were. The celebration happened when clock was at 0.0 and horn had sounded. Refs then went to monitor, realized there were 0.4 seconds left and then assessed the T.

Just because we don't like the rules, doesn't mean that an official enforcing those rules is wrong....a lot has to do with timing, but much more of it has to do with what has occurred during the game to that point.

 

Again, no official has the ability to set aside a rule, no matter how many fans (or officials for that matter) don't like or agree with the rule.

 

There are too many unknowns to make a blanket statement that this was wrong....but I understand why fans would not like it.
