January 6, 201610 yr Murray and Ulis are pros. Poythress and Lee can probably play in the D-League or overseas. Skal is a pro if he is properly developed. The jury is still out on the rest. I agree totally, but for purposes of next years team, Poythress is gone because he is a Senior. The other guys, unless they are dead set on going, how could anyone tell them they are ready to go. I think it would be hilarious to watch these guys go against the pros. Ulis is what he is and most likely a back-up point guard in the league. I could see him doing that next year or two years from now. Murray needs more seasoning and to me at this point, I am not sure if he is quick enough to get his in the NBA. The other guys, I just haven't seen anything at this point to show promise. They are still saying Skal as a top 10 pick and to me, that is laughable.
January 6, 201610 yr Read on Twitter that apparently Ulis and Murray got after the bigs for their poor play after the game. Anything you could post?
January 6, 201610 yr How can Cal justify Briscoe's minutes? He should come off the bench and backup Murray/Ulis when needed. With the ineptness of the big's offense on this team, they have to get offense from somewhere else. I would actually like to see Willis take his position, but he always seems to be in Cal's doghouse. Besides his D (which is good),his offensive stats are almost laughable! It is not like this team is an offensive juggernaut, they can't afford what he brings, for the minutes he plays.
January 6, 201610 yr Briscoe blows my mind. How can you be that bad from FT? And why are you taking jump shots when you can't even hit a FT? And Poythress... You're a senior man act like it. Jay Bilas said it best "Sometimes you just get the sense that a lot of times it's the wrong guy taking shots for Kentucky" This was right after a poorly missed Briscoe shot attempt.
January 6, 201610 yr Can Wynyard help this team any on the inside? If so, he needs to start playing. Lee can rebound and play a little defense, but his basketball IQ is not very high and his offense is basically being able to dunk. Poythress shows up to play randomly and his offense is also mostly limited to being able to dunk. Considering the type of defense UK plays, if they do not have a defensive stopper, they are very vulnerable in the paint. They need to play more zone in my opinion.
January 6, 201610 yr You mean they didn't shoot 48% from three again? Hmm. They shot 7 of 20 from three and I think they hoisted and missed 1/3 of those in the first 5 minutes. Making 2-3 more wasn't going to make any difference in the differential in this game. Any team looks better when they make shots, but this team's success, or lack of it, is about what happens in the paint on both ends of the court.

The problem is, Willis defense is almost laughable. Watch him defend a pick & roll. It's brutal. I feel like Cal will typically favor the defensive player in that situation.
January 6, 201610 yr Jay Bilas said it best "Sometimes you just get the sense that a lot of times it's the wrong guy taking shots for Kentucky" This was right after a poorly missed Briscoe shot attempt. Briscoe is shooting 35% from the line and 19% on 3 pointers. Poythress is only shooting 9% on 3's and 62% from the line while Lee is hitting on 42% and Matthews 47% of their FT's.
January 6, 201610 yr Briscoe is one of the few players that brings toughness to the court for UK. Not hard to see why he can't be taken out from action, regardless of how poorly he shoots.

Just because Willis can make a couple of baseline 3s a game (seriously, has ever taken one anywhere else on the court?), he is brutal at everything else.

Four more made threes makes this a six point game instead of an 18 point game. I'd say 2-3 more would have definitely made a difference.
January 6, 201610 yr Four more made threes makes this a six point game instead of an 18 point game. I'd say 2-3 more would have definitely made a difference. Then you didn't watch the game. I guess at some point you can say if UK had made 15 out of 20 threes, for example, they would have had a shot, but them not going off from behind the three point arc was not the difference in this game. As I said at the start, Briscoe is who I felt most comfortable guarding Ben Simmons. That is all you need to know about this team. They out rebounded UK by 14 and the most imposing rebounder in the country played limited minutes because of foul trouble.

He might have had two more offensive rebounds last night if he wasn't trying to tip dunk like he did the other game (which was an awesome play).
