ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that the Bengals are preparing for their AFC North showdown with second-year quarterback AJ McCarron, who is 2-1 as a starter. The two wins came against the 49ers and Ravens, however. Those two teams combined for 10 wins -- two fewer than the Bengals.

So is there going to be another BGP pregame gathering?

Heard last night that he is optimistic that he'll be able to play. Not sure how much I believe that, but Dalton at 70% will be better than a healthy McCarron IMO.

 

Dalton has been AMAZING this year. However I think people are really over selling how good he can be after not playing in a month, and have a thumb injury on his throwing hand, especially if his thumb is say just 70% as you say. Some of you all have acted like McCarron has looked really bad. When in fact his passer rating has been over 100 total in this 3 and 3 quarters games he has played. He has a completion percentage of over 65% in these games, and 6 touchdowns and 2 interceptions.

 

So while the offense is not a top 5 offense in the league like it was with Dalton earlier this season, he has not done bad at all. Not to mention some act like Dalton has a good history of playing the Steelers and he has had only two games where he actually played well. I believe he has only won 3 times against the Steelers, and none of those wins did he score more than 17 points. So when the Bengals have beaten the Steelers including this year it has been because of the defense and not QB play. Dalton is a QB who is not the biggest in the world, not the strongest arm, and honestly not the most talented. He is one who relies on timing and anticipation and then trying to be accurate with that. With a month off and not playing and playing with possibly a thumb that is still sore and not 100%. I don't see how people would think a Dalton at 70% is better than McCarron. Now if Dalton is 100%, then I completely agree you have to go with him.

Nothing about this game favors the Bengals. Not only does Pittsburgh have their number (last 4-5 years) but they are playing really well. This game will also be played in prime time and we all know how the Bengals play in that situation. This is the match up no Bengal fan wanted. Just don't see Cincy getting over the hump this year. This is just my $.2 but I'm certain I'll be told I'm a moron for thinking that but to each their own.

Several years ago, I went down with my family for a Bengals-Titans game. Bengals won. Titans fans were just so NICE to us...it was kind of creepy.

2 of the worst outings all season have been the last 2 weeks for the Steelers. So, I think I'll disagree with the "playing really well" part.

Off topic, but went to the Patriots-Titans game down there a few years ago and my goodness they were incredibly nice. It blew my mind. They were nicer to us than most Bengal fans are to other Bengals fans at PBS. It was a great experience.

No argument except that the Steelers have been off the past couple games vs where they were for the month before. The Bengals have also played much better in prime time this year compared to their past fiascos. Finally, Williams being banged up will put it even more on Ben and he's had a few interceptions recently. I feel pretty good about this game.
