All I can say is congrats to every kid who made all state in whichever poll that had came out. You did something right to get recognized and good job. Ignore us adults while we bicker about who should be on it and who didn't vote.

No. The bickering is the fact that one of the biggest areas in the state is not represented because the Cincinnati Enquirer apparently does not have the "right" to place a vote.

 

Would be the same arguments heard if it happened in Louisville, Lexington, the Mountains or Western Kentucky.

Since you want to treat this as a joke, I will give you my son's stats for this year and you tell me if he should have been on the team somewhere.

A large majority of kickoffs landed in the endzone if not landing out the back of the endzone.

The Hendrix kid had something like 8 interceptions on defense and I believe was the leading receiver in 6A and he gets no mention.

 

Bo Hebel of Highlands is a "pancake" machine and he warrants no consideration.

 

Brent Slusher makes team as running back and he only played there after Ethan Stringer got hurt. Another kid who could/should have gotten mention.

 

The Lawrence kid was a dominating lineman for NCC and he gets no mention?

 

I will quit there and suggest maybe you go take a look at these kids highlight tapes and tell me they cannot even garner a mention.

I don't even bother reading the all state teams any longer. The BGP All State Team is the only one that matters. Yes, it has co.e to that, sorry paid journalists.

Not making a joke. Asking legitimate questions. Seems like there is a problem and No one wants to offer a solution. Congrats to your son. I hope he gets the opportunity to continue playing if he is a senior. I offered an idea for a solution on one of these threads. I think the coaches and or KHSAA name an all state team by class. I would advise that if you have a daughter and she enters beauty pageants the judging will be worse than this.

Not sure what a solution is especially in todays print media. Sure there are many guys/girls that cover sports in NKY that could at least offer up some names, but no it is easier to simply say you do not qualify and thus no kids from NKY get their just do.

Finding a way to get more members of the AP to vote would be a start.

 

The issue with a team voted on by members of the press is those guys really don't see a large representation of the players in the state play. They see their local guys and whoever those teams play, and thats about it. Small town news guys are stretched so thin already and this is another thing they have little time to participate in, as evidenced by the low voter numbers.

 

I think ideally you would have some collaboration among them and discussion of each position. The motives would have to be to put the best team out, not to barter for votes for your local guys regardless of merit. That probably will never happen, but it would be much better than what we have now.

The AP team is annually the most flawed of all all-star teams and this year's continues the tradition. How can the AP not be embarrassed and not do something to fix their process?

Maybe the answer is to assign these teams the value that they deserve - which seems to be declining each year - and not get so worked up about it.

The different teams give kids multiple opportunities to be honored. While one team may have coverage problems in an area the other hopefully pick them up.

Not seeing the kids play because of geographic challenges or staffing issues shouldn't be a problem in this day and age. Video technology is better today versus anything we've seen in our lifetime and available to anyone with a computer (pretty much the whole world). I personally don't have an issue with any list we've seen....in my eyes, all of the kids on AP or CJ are worthy one way or another. It will never be perfect.

 

But, if you are going to submit a ballot or vote - you have to own it. Take the time to watch video...I've done this for the past 4 years and enjoyed every minute watching kids from all over the country. Take into consideration the performance when a team or kid is playing the WV/TN/IN/OH state champ or runner up (not so much the 300 yard performance against a 2-10 team). Plenty of room for improvement. Still doesn't mean the system is entirely broken - just need coaches and writers to take responsibility.

 

Again...I personally don't have issues with any of the list. I do see a few head scratchers - but we will never have a perfect list. Congrats to all the kids.
