December 29, 201510 yr It just seems like common sense to me that a finite space will reach a capacity limit...whatever that is. The bulk of the growth is expected in developing countries. These are probably the same ones with the tear jerking commercials of starvation. To me the first step is education..and not the kind that discourages family planning and contraception. I will repeat - to stick one's head in the sand is just stupid. What do you suggest ? I hope not any restrictions on freedom.

December 29, 201510 yr I watched the movie Kingsman: The Secret Service last night. This topic reminded me of the movie. But the movie is kind of based on thinning out the population.
December 30, 201510 yr When Thomas Malthus wrote his essay the world population was 978,000,000. I believe the world is surviving quite well. Most of the recent famines the world has suffered are due to government mismanagement, creating food shortages. Not caused by the doubling of the population over the last 60 years. As for resources, there have been predictions of the oil supply going dry since 1919. Erlich predicted all sorts of mineral shortages and the opposite has happened. Much can be said positively of capitalism. As it is the freedom to produce and be rewarded for your efforts that have improved life for the billions alive today. While I deploy big government trying force green energy on us, I do believe there will be a day it will help to energize the world. But, it will come despite the government when someone, due to the profit motive, comes up with the technology to make it work profitably.
December 30, 201510 yr At 2 acres per person - the world would fit into Texas. Let's Put Everybody into Texas
December 30, 201510 yr With the increase in life expectancy that started in the 1800s increas in population was inevitable. But its not a chain reaction 'explosion' that will continue. Things are leveling off and mortality rates and birth rates are going back to equalizing with a stable average life expectancy.
December 30, 201510 yr What segments can we part ways with? - "Bros" at the gym - People that talk on their bluetooth or speakerphone in public - People that wear pajamas out in society - Folks that are suddenly history buffs to justify displaying the Confederate Flag That is easily 20,000,000 people. I am doing my part to come up with sustainable solutions.

Many theories exist of which I learned about in a sociology class in college called "Population Problems." This line of thinking is what I remember most.

Those probably annoy me more than any other group on a daily basis.
December 30, 201510 yr Can we add people that don't return their shopping cart to the proper place? Those probably annoy me more than any other group on a daily basis. Sure, but many of those overlap with #s 3 and 4 on my list
December 30, 201510 yr Sure, but many of those overlap with #s 3 and 4 on my list Oh...and those that don't add an "s" to words that end in "-st" to make them plural!!!!! I believe we are on to a solution, bugs.
December 30, 201510 yr The "The world will run out of food and water in X generations" predictions over the past 200 years are as worn out as the "If we don't get rid of coal, oil, whatever other fossil fuel, in 20 years, we will all need gas masks by the year (name a year that has already passed) and this is scientifically proven and peer reviewed by other scientists" Some people have the view that the world can only create so much food despite the fact agricultural technology continues to yield more per acre over time. I guess they assume such technology will end? Also, we have the technology to convert ocean water to drinking water, it is just too expensive TODAY. With technology, it won't be long till California droughts are solved with water from the Pacific Ocean.
