Pretty humorous to read some of these posts. I'm sure the feelings expressed over the summer don't ring true today. But then again, neither did Petrino's statements.

 

It is but I'm sure we all have some posts that the future treats unkindly. You should read my "Who will be in the final four" where I say Ky will be the last SEC team standing. Fla and LSU sort of made me look silly when they ended up in the final four; and Ky out in the second round. To have TWO SEC teams in the final four.....and for UK to be out...

:laugh: :laugh: Nope, my answer was the same the day that that U.L. hired him, the day/night that he had the "midnight" meetings with Auburn trying to stab U.L. and Tubberville in the back. I will say that I don't blame Petrino one bit for taking the Falcons job. His problem now is going to the NFL where a coach -- any coach is hired to be fired. His other problem will be having to deal with M. Vick who has as big and arrogant attitude as he does. Also dealing with telling players that are making more money than him what to do.:eek: Not just BP, all NFL,NBA.MLB coaches have to deal with that. JMO

What's funny? The fact that Tom Jurich hand picked the one of the most coveted coaches in America, and he left for 5 mill to Atlanta...I hope Jurich keeps it up.

I agree with you on Petrino being a very good coach and Jurich making good hires. What I believe is funny is how all (or most) of the U.L. fans went nuts when his character/loyalty was challenged in some other threads. Any coach at any school could do this and there a a lot that have and will be a lot more that do this in the future. What is funny to me is that the U.L. faithful somehow thought that they and U.L. were far above the possibility of a coach wanting to leave Louisville. Imo Petrino has made a big mistake (coaching wise), just like Petino, went for the $$$$$$ and the ego trip that he was the greatest - found out that he was not a pro coach and when returned to the college game was not as effective as he would had been if he had stayed in the college game. JMO

I too find that funny. Anybody was quickly shot down when Petrino's loyalty was questioned but now this new guy has way better qualitites.

I think Petrino felt loyal in his intentions to Louisville (this past year or so). The offer from the Falcons was obviously one that he never would've dreamed would happen, I can't blame the man. I can only celebrate his success here, and applaud Tom Jurich in being the one with enough foresight to see Louisville reach the pinnacle of NCAA D-1 football.

Atlanta has never been a coveted job although a bit intriguing in that it might be a privilege (maybe, maybe not) to coach one, Michael Vick. The money was obviously the main attraction.

 

The fact of the matter was this......Bobby Petrino was leaving Louisville for some other team. Did he not make enough attempts to sell you on the fact it was going to happen? Sure he got Tom Jurich to re-work his contract, I am told, four or five times and he had a heck of a contract at Louisville. Regardless of contract, money, etc. he was leaving Louisville for perceived greener (no pun) pastures.

 

Don't make it sound like the Atlanta job was too good to pass up. There are a lot better jobs in the NFL and college than the traditionless Atlanta Falcons.

$5 million, the NFL, with a team that is loaded with talent....people would line up, believe that.
