No one compared Mayfield and BG's programs. Someone compared Boyle County and Bowling Green and I gave my answer to that comparison. In that comparison you said Boyle County was better than BG because of state titles won. 7-5. So if BG wins state the next 3 years and Boyle County doesn't is that automatically going to make BG the better program than Boyle County in your eyes? If so then that is how you judge programs and that's your choice.

 

Like I said, having been around the BG program since 1990 and the Boyle County program since 1998 I will respectfully disagree with you on who the better program is. Since 1990 my eyes have seen BG field better teams on a more consistent basis than Boyle County.

The only logical ways to judge what team was better is head to head or titles.

ATL, I was speaking in terms before they seperated in to 6 classes. This is when BG had the likes of Highlands, Covington Catholic, Louisville Central, Lexington Catholic, Johnson Central, etc. Maybe I am misreading your post.

No big deal, I wasn't exactly crystal clear in my post either. I was just trying to establish that the path for Bowling Green to win 3A was incredibly difficult because of the teams that were slotted in that class. It just so happens that most of those teams remain in 5A with the exception of a few.

How has BG exposed BC in a disheartening way head-to-head?

 

Yes. 49-21 BG won. The game was at WKU in the Rafferty's Bowl and it was in 2007. That is when we were introduced to Rees Macshara and it was also Chris Pardue's last season as head coach at Boyle County.

 

BG lost to Highlands 28-7 in the 5A state finals that season. It was BG's third straight loss in the state finals.

 

Boyle County went 5-7 that season and lost to LexCath in the second round of the 4A playoffs.

 

To my knowledge that is the only time that Boyle County/BG have faced each other. I do know that BG/Danville played a time or two in the 80s and all of my Danville folks tell me that BG won those games. In my opinion I do think the 7 state championship Boyle County teams would have defeated Bowling Green in those respective years. In all other years I'd give the nod to BG head to head. I don't think that either team has fielded a state championship team in the same season.

Well if BG only had to defeat Rock Castle County and Glasgow every now and then to win a title then I'm sure they'd be in double digits whereas Boyle Count would still only have 7. Just couldn't figure out that Highlands riddle when push came to shove now could they.......

A whole lot have played D-1. A whole lot. It'll take me some time to get a list together but I'll try. Are you talking FBS or FCS or both?

 

Off the top of my head I want to say Robert Reynolds played for the Titans in the early 2000s.

1. Like I said earlier I am a Boyle County fan. I had one son graduate from Boyle County in 2012 that played basketball for Boyle County. I served as President of the Boyle County Boys Basketball Booster Club when he was a junior and senior on the team.

 

2. I have another son that I gained custody of when he was in the 7th grade and a large part of that was to have him attend Boyle County schools instead of Burgin schools which is where his mother lived. He is currently a sophomore and the starting point guard for Boyle County varsity team. I'm currently the VP of the Boys Basketball Booster Club and will be for at least the next two seasons.

 

3. While both boys have played for Boyle County I have volunteered to operate the scoreboard for Boyle County at home games and I have offered all of my services to Boyle County whenever Boyle County has needed me for anything. I have donated way more time, money, effort and energy to Boyle County more than any school in this state.

 

4. I have traveled to Bell County twice, Johnson Central, Louisville, Ft. Thomas, Bowling Green and various other towns in KY in the past decade to support the football team without ever having a kid play for the football team. I have fought hard for Chuck Smith, Chris Pardue, Larry French, Chris Mason and Jeff Hester on this board for many many many years. I've supported and publicly championed kids such as Brandon Smith and Rees Macshara to Mr. Football voters in an effort to get them the award and recognition I felt they deserved.

 

5. I've done a ton for Boyle County football and the entire Boyle County school system and their athletic programs as a whole. I love the entire school and not just the football program. I guarantee I've done a better job of supporting all Boyle County platforms than any Boyle County poster on here. 90% of Boyle County BGP posters disappear when basketball season starts but we know you all will show up and claim solidarity if we make it to the region tournament so whatever.......

 

There are multiple Boyle County BGP posters who know where my loyalties lie. If you or anyone else wants to question my loyalties to Boyle County because I think BG has a better football program then by all means fire away. I honestly don't care. Friday night the basketball team plays at Knox Central. We could use your support. You coming?

 

Next time I see Coach Smith I'll ask him if he is going to schedule BG in 2017, 2018, 2019 or 2020 when this middle school bunch makes it up to varsity. I've seen them play a few times and they are very talented and will have a good chance to bring another title back to Boyle County. It feels like some don't understand that if you tweak the formula used just a bit you can change the order.

 

Based on this formula BG has the better program.

 

IMO, I think BG is the better program. Consistency over the years matters and BG had been more consistent longer. State Titles should be a big factor, but not the be all end all.
