Dixie stadium progress, will they play Highlands at Highlands?

I wonder if SK and Scott be getting facility upgrades (artificial fields) as well?

From my understanding, no. Scott is a newer facility with plenty of room and all fields are on campus. SK also has all fields on campus. However, I think another main reason is that they have a practice field for their football teams to where they don't tear up their game fields. Therefore, there is no need for turf.

MY TAX MONEY IS PAYING FOR A $10 MILLION HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS COMPLEX!?!?!?!

I think I'm going to be sick.

I believe the cost of the sports complex is $4M not $10M. The total renovation costs for all the projects at Dixie was $16.5M.

It won't be the first time that they got something wrong, but I was quoting the Enquirer in their interview of the Rich Haney.

He said total cost of the complex and renovations (parking lots and such) going on right now was 10,000,000.

The Enquirer could still be correct if the cost is $6M for the projects going on right now which are not related to the sports complex.

Do you know much about Dixie? It was the only 4A school in the state without its own track, baseball fields, and such... It's facilities were deemed totally inadequate by the state for a school of it's size and mandated that they update and or replace the existing structures. They just decided to do it right, I don't see that as a problem. I don't like the idea of doing things half asprin. As far as Scott, they have had one of the nicest facilities for 25+ years. SK just got it's facilites upgraded as well. But they always had nice fields in comparison.

And how do sports complex renovations and parking lots contribute to the learning process? At a rate of $5 per ticket, 3000 tickets per game, 6 games a year, this renovation will pay for itself in just over 100 years.

Or it could have funded teacher salaries for 20 teachers for 10 years.

My rant isn't against Dixie, but wasteful spending in general when school systems are already financially strapped.

Wrong, we play at least seven Varsity Football home games a year usually, 5 jv football home games, 5 freshman football games, 5 Turkeyfoot middle school football games, 2 NKYFL Raider football games x 4 divisions. Not to mention all the soccer teams of the same types, and the track meets and tennis matches and baseball games we will host now that we couldn't before. Also now we have a main gym and and auxilliary gym that we can use when scheduling conflicts happen.

Anyone who doesn't believe that extra curricular activities in high school play a big part in shaping kids is kidding themselves IMO. I have no problem in investing in a sports complex at Dixie because it needed to happen. It is being paid for by the county, and the state. So as a fellow resident of the county and the state, I want to say thanks dad.:D

I was by there two weeks ago (not by the field just the school) looks like a ton of work needs to be done.

That is true, but it's amazing to see how much these guys do in a day, and they work 6 days a week, sun up to sun down when it's dry.

I'll be sure to stop by there next time I am up that way :thumb:

I'm glad I live in Campbell County now.

Heard from a reliable source last night (the "donut lady") that HHS has "oficially" gotten the home field for the Dixie game. (the "donut lady" runs the prom2dawn fundraiser for HHS...would effect her ordering if allotted an additional game!)

This is off subject but is highlands rennovating the inside of the school. I noticed it when i drove by their the other day.

Yep done deal. The door decorators were notified last night. That messed up the balloon ordering.:dancingpa

They're completely renovating and rebuilding nearly the entire school. It's a six-phase project I believe and will take several years. It will be a whole new school more or less when the project is completed. It's a long-overdue improvement and should make for an environment much more conducive to learning.
