Dixie stadium progress, will they play Highlands at Highlands?

I am in no way slighting you in the installation of your field turf, but I think the total cost the HHS project was around $600,000 correct? If so, then consider this, we are spending 16.67 times that amount. $10,000,000. That's alot of work over one summer.

Is Dixie building a 10 million dollar sports complex?

How is this possible? How is it being paid for? Is this a record amount for high school sports facility in Kentucky?

I stopped by on Saturday and ran into one of the superintendants for the job and they were working full staff on Saturday and feel they will be ready. He also said the turf was to be put down today. Looks like they have alot of work ahead as long as it does not rain. JD

State funded. Dixie is (was) the only Kenton County school that was landlocked, and with the additions to the school, it only made the situation worse. Scott has a baseball, softball, soccer, and football field on their campus along with a track. They also have an area to practice. Simon Kenton is the same as Scott.

Not only is it a sports complex, but all the concrete work around the school is being completely redone. The front and side parking lots have been completely torn up and will be reconfigured. It looks as though they will tier the front hill so more parking can be added, and so the buses can all fit easier. Hopefully, the side lot will be separated from the street by a curb or something, b/c the way some people park, it made the street one lane. :irked: With the recent additions to the school, the practice field was removed, so the football team was forced to practice on the field, and we saw what that did to it, along with soccer games. The neighboring elementary school was torn down, as they built a new one next to the middle school. The school board building behind the school was bought a couple years ago and torn down. So, the school was able to add more land to their campus via these two properties. Now, they are able to have the baseball field on school property instead of at the middle school, and it will be placed where the school board used to sit. The softball field will be moved to where the elementary school sat. The football field got pushed down around 30-40 yards, and will be complete with turf, a track, stands on both sides, and new buildings for concession and locker rooms.

Yeah, I love that avatar Henry! That would make a cool framed photo!

As for the game, it would be nice to have one more home game; but it will be a tough one either way.

I have a few other angles. Including the one that my son experienced on the 4th:flame: . If you would like I could e-mail them to you.

That would be very nice!

Although, I'm not sure I want to see smoldering bird feathers. ;)

It sure is. Henry understood that but was just trying to be "encouraging". It sounds like it is going to turn out to be really neat and as Henry said, will be well worth the wait. While I like playing at home, I hope its ready for the game. I'd like to see the Birds be Dixie's first opponent on the field.

Now as Henry admonished, get off of this site and get on the construction site. You can pull a little concrete.

I would love to have you guys be the first too. It's such a fun game regardless and it would add to rivalry even more.:thumb: Besides, I don't want to have to wait untill week 5, our next home game.

Glad to hear that! I'll be driving by in the next few days with my camera. I'll put 'em up as soon as I can.

I took some pics tonight, half the field has the tarp laid out. Looks like they're getting ready to put down the track as well.I'll post them as soon as I convert them down to being small enough.

Thanks and great pics. If the weather holds (and yesterday, today and tomorrow aren't helping) looks like it will be finished in time. I hope so. Anyone know if the construction contract contains liquidated damages if its not completed on time?

If they do, then it's probably based on week 5 of the season and not the opener since the talk has gone back to last year of possibly not having it ready for the opener.

MY TAX MONEY IS PAYING FOR A $10 MILLION HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS COMPLEX!?!?!?!

I think I'm going to be sick.
