Dixie stadium progress, will they play Highlands at Highlands?

Featured Replies

Went by the field tonight. The turf is done, They are putting the hashes and numbers down. The asphalt around the track is done. The scoreboard is up. The press box is done other then the inside. The visiting locking room is done. The Concession stand is getting the finishing touches on it's roof. The stanchions for the stands are being craned in place. Half of them look as though they are in place on the Home field side. They have started moving the dirt for the girls softball field Nees. It looks like it should fit nicely. It's very nice looking thus far. I will stop by tommorrow if possible and take a few new pics.:thumb:

Looks like most of the parking lots are going to be the reason that it will not be ready by game day (1st week). Cause other than that it could be ready in another two weeks easy to host a game.

Where abouts exactly is new Dixie Heights stadium? How many fans will it seat? What is typical attendance at Dixie home games? What kind of locker room facilities will it have? It looks to be a very nice facility from the pictures. I can imagine that the coaches, players and fans are chompin at the bit to see opening night.... Any new traditions (pregame etc.) to be started or old ones carried forward with the new stadium? Good Luck this season from a W-L perspective as well as that new stadium!!!!

I wish I could answer that for sure, they've changed construction designs a few times. Seating should be between 3,500 and 5,000 by the looks of it. I would guess 5000, but it's just a guess at this point. The old stadium was 3000. We routinely had sell outs for big games. Their will be new visiting team locker rooms. We already have a new locker room and weitght room filled with state of the art stuff. Most of which was donated by an alumn.

Thanks for that tidbit of info. ;) I was going to drive by today, but by the time I got near the school, it started pouring, so I just continued on down Kenton Lands.

Thats correct they have been practicing there the past couple years to try and save some wear and tear to the field. Now that the turf is coming they won't have this problem anymore.

The new stadium will seat about 3000, 2500 on the home side and 500 on the visitors side. The old stadium seated about 1500 plus about 1000 standing, for total capacity 2500.

Also, previously your were discussing the cost, $10M. That's an estimate of the total project cost. The sports complex alone is estimated @ $4M-$5M, the balance is for land acquisition, utilities (large storm sewer, large water main and underground electric power) replacement/moving, site security and parking lots.

I was just browsing through some weather cams on my weather bug and there is a cam showing the New stadium progress. It looks like it is really taking shape very nicely.

The capacity I listed for the old stadium is on the KHSAA website, I could probably contact the school and find out the official number of tickets we sell to a sold out first or second round game, but I would bet that 3000 is about right. Also, I would estimate the "capacity" for the new stadium to be 4500 to 5000 at least if not more. Remeber, the kids never sit, they will all be milling around I would suspect as usual. Standing room only is also used as part of "capacity" I do believe. Also, how is the underground power, sewer, and storm system not part of the stadium project. It is being done because of the project right? Parking? Though technically it is used for the school, after school it is used and situated to accomodate the extra curricular activities, such as football, baseball, track, tennins, softball, basketball and soccer. I'll split that with you and call it 7.5 Million for the sports stadium complex and 2.5 for school parking. Fair enough?:D

It's pretty neat to put it on camera animation and select the last 30 days. :thumb:

You weren't up there yesterday, were you? I drove by, and there was a guy standing/sitting at the back of the stands just taking in the site of the new place.

Locker Room to the left, and concession stand. 2nd level of the building. Will be on the same level as the split in the upper and lower levels of the stadium seating.

I heard this weekend that the house seen behind the scoreboard will be torn down to make more room for the softball field.

Really? Then the softball field will be nowhere near where we thought. I looked at the area there and thought to myself, that is an awful lot of land that they won't be able to use. So I'm gonna guess the other area (where we thought the girls ball field was going to be) will be strictly parking. Who knows, it's kinda fun to try and figure it out as they go. Won't be long now!
