My 1-A Pre-Season Top 10

Featured Replies

I agree with the top three of Danville, NCC, and Beechwood and you can throw a blanket over those three each week and pick the order of ranking...and as far as Mayfield goes the Cards are younger this season and did lose a lot of skilled players and will rely heavily on Shelton to carry them until some other players can step up...but the good thing is that Mayfield has a favorable schedule this year with seven games in a row at home...so it should give the younger Cards confidence during the regular season as the far western districts of 1A will not be that strong and Mayfield should be able to have at least two playoff games at home if things go well...but then after that it is up for grabs...but if I were a betting man I would put my milk money on the Cards making it to the final four again...no offense to the other teams in the 1st region, but the cards normally seem to find a way into the day after Thanksgiving. Great thing is that the season is just a little over a month away and we can see what our teams will look like on the field instead of on paper!!!

Wow! State Champs at #3. I think they are #1 until somebody beats them. I know it is a new year But NCC has alot coming back.

1 Danville - just have an awful lot of great lineman coming back

2 NewCath - hard to stay on top in that district with a target on your back

3 Beechwood - seems right that they be here

4 Somerset - Ross Deaton. 'Nuff said.

5 Mayfield - even in a rebuilding year they will win the West.

6 Pikeville - Mike Jackson has his title chance here.

7 Lou. Holy Cross - manufactures big strong lineman and will get another crack at the Ads

8 Lexington Christian - rebuild year, but weak district

9 Bardstown - Rebuild year; I'll re-evaluate after watching non-district games

10 Bethlehem - Billy Jackson + weak schedule = sleeper team

NCC has alot of great lineman returning as well.

:thumb: I agree with that 100%, a person can usually do that every year and come out pretty close to being right.

Been competitive with NewCath, for starters.

Bardstown was #1 in the AP poll, best I recall, but we all know how unreliable the AP poll can be sometimes.

Mayfield was pretty good last year, and they may have been the second-best team in Class A. But, given the way they were shelled by NewCath, to say they were "without a doubt" the #2 team is hard to justify. NewCath supporters may very well think Beechwood or Lexington Christian was better.

For those of you who only saw Mayfield play in state, they certainly didn't have their mojo at Papa John's. They were a much better team than they displayed, TRUST ME. However, it is hard to beat a team that plays mistake free like NCC did. They were just dang good.

Since I haven't officially posted my top ten:

1. NCC (#1 til they get beat)

2. Danville (lots of experience returning)

T3. Beechwood (new coach should have continued success)

T3. Mayfield (Kings of Region 1)

5. Somerset (?)

6. Lou Holy Cross (?)

7. Pikeville (?)

8. Lex. Christian Acad. (?)

9. Frankfort (?)

10. Bardstown (lost a lot I believe)

What specifics can anyone tell me about Louisville Holy Cross?

I think Campbellsville needs to be thrown into the mix.

Campbellsville definately plays in one of the toughest districts.

Somerset will be a very explosive offensive team. Lots of weapons in the skilled position. If they can tighten up their defense, they could make a run in November for the 1A crown.

Campbellsville definately plays in one of the toughest districts.

Yes, Campbellsville in there with Holy Cross, Bethlehem and Bardstown will be very competetive this year.

The Eagles have the Vaughn boy and the Anderson brothers, but graduated Bridgewater and a bunch of lineman. Anyone else with any insight about them?
