They return a lot back to both sides of the ball, from what i remember. The two big ones will be Rich Witten and Jeffrey Guest both at the QB position.

Everybody seems to be forgetting about Bardstown. They lost a lot, but still have a lot of speed and quickness.

Mayfield is about 4 to 7 this season but they have some nice freshmen coming up. Also Mayfield never got the credit they deserved last year during the regular season. Mayfield was the 2nd best team in 1A without a doubt but was ranked about 4 or 5 all season.

Given Mayfield's performance in the state finals, that's a tough statement to justify.

I appreciate the nod. We will be fast again, not as fast as last year, but we have some young guys that could be really dynamite. I like being out of the rankings for now, suits me fine.

They may have performed poorly, but they were the runner-up (#2), what more justification do you need?

I agree that the top 4 will have the 95% chance of winning it, but I disagree with Beechood over NCC. But I must admit I am a tiny bit bias.

Westsider, Mayfield beat Bardstown which was ranked #1 going into that game. Several Danville people who were at that game said we were a much better team than Danville. I don't know what more Mayfield could have done. NCC was the best team by far in 1A. I will say this, Bardstown might have been able to give NCC a better game because of their speed.

the reputation of Mayfield's program speaks for itself.....they are a title contender every year. Yes, Ncc, beechwood, and Dville have been more consistent over the past five or so years. However, in terms of titles, NCc has a lot of catching up to do. Beechwood, Danville, and Mayfield have proved themselves already. How many titles does NCC have besides last year???????

Bardstown thumped Danville. Mayfield thumped Bardstown. NCC thumped Mayfield. The only way Bardstown's speed would have given NCC a better game would have been if NCC had a bunch of lineman get hurt. They were the clear cut champs last year.

NCC has a lot of speed on the defensive front last year. Usually you see 1 or 2 guys that stick out as being fast lineman. NCC had all 3 or 4 guys that were fast off the ball and had very nice closing speed.

NCC was by far the best 1A team last year. I really didn't see a weak spot on the team.
