December 7, 201510 yr Should have made this deal before last season instead of worrying about the All-Star game. They greatly diminished his trade value.
December 7, 201510 yr Normally you trade a top flight guy for top flight prospects, correct? Teams aren't going to trade the #1 or #3 overall prospects. Especially not for a 1 year rental of a closer.
December 7, 201510 yr Normally you trade a top flight guy for top flight prospects, correct? A lot more factors go into it than just that. You know that.
December 7, 201510 yr Sounds more like a salary dump that a trade to improve the team. If you're dumping salary by giving away the best closer, do you do the same with Phillips, Votto and Bruce? So if they got Holmes and Pereza, two top 50 overall prospects, you consider that a salary dump?
December 7, 201510 yr So if they got Holmes and Pereza' date=' two top 50 overall prospects, you consider that a salary dump?[/quote'] Yes it still could be, we all know you love prospects but not all of them pan out. Free up 8 million and got a few lottery tickets.
December 7, 201510 yr Sounds more like a salary dump that a trade to improve the team. If you're dumping salary by giving away the best closer, do you do the same with Phillips, Votto and Bruce? They have been trying to do that with Phillips for two years. They would have taken a bag of balls for him and no team would take his salary. No one would take Votto's contract right now and we are going to get much for Bruce. So the answer would be yes.

December 7, 201510 yr So if they got Holmes and Pereza, two top 50 overall prospects, you consider that a salary dump? Reports have the Dodgers talking to the Marlins about Jose Fernandez. If that's the case I don't think the Reds have managed to get Holmes and Pereza. I'd have to think that they still have at least one of them to package with one of their big 3 to get Fernandez.

I'd have to think that they still have at least one of them to package with one of their big 3 to get Fernandez. I don't think they got both either. My best guess is Pereza and Verdugo. I'd take that for a rental, but I'm sure most won't like it.
