Report: Chapman To Dodgers is Done

Featured Replies

Sounds like his aim with the pistol is similar to his change up and fastball. 1 out of every 8 is wild.

Walt Jocketty has now said it will be several weeks before anything happens with Chapman and there are reports that he may have injured his hand in the incident.

Also, the Red Sox were involved in talks with the Reds last month and they found out about it in a background check, which sounds to me like the Reds have been hiding it from teams.

The incident happened at the end of October. I doubt his hand was seriously injured enough to affect the season, but you never know.

Wasn't there some kind of another domestic dispute allegation against Aroldis in the last handful of years?

There was an incident in Pittsburgh where a woman (possibly Chapman's girlfriend) was found tied up in his hotel room. Chapman wasn't present at the time, and it sounds like a couple guys broke into his hotel room to rob him while he was at the ballpark, found the girl, tied her up, and continued to ransack the room.

It doesn't sound like there will be any criminal charges. Hopefully the MLB will perform its investigation & make a ruling before Spring Training. That should allow the Reds to still trade Chapman before the start of the season.

That took a pretty wild turn. Didn't see that coming at all.

I read speculation that the Dodgers were after Chapman in an attempt to get Fernandez. Loria wanted a big name Cuban player back in any deal for Fernandez.

How stupid are the Reds if they knew this could come out and they got greedy by wanting more back?

Moreover, a lengthy suspension could mean Chapman no longer is assured of reaching free agency after the 2016 season because players don’t accrue MLB service time while serving domestic-violence suspensions.

Chapman will enter the season with 5 years, 34 days of major-league service. A full year of service time is 172 days. Thus, Chapman will need to be on an active roster or disabled list for at least 138 days this season in order to become a free agent next winter.

Dude is obviously a piece of work, but I seriously doubt this ends up hurting him in the long run.

Interesting that the deal had AC going to LA and then to Miami. Isn't there any prospects in Miami that were interested in or is our best option dealing with LA?

That's just speculation.

I'd say if Fernandez were to go anywhere it would be LA. They have the prospects and Mattingly has the familiarity with the org to know what he wants.

For what it's worth, if Miami got the haul for Fernandez they have reportedly asked for, I have no issues with trading him away.

This has been great entertainment.

THAT'S it. Well that sounds like it's reasonable to give him a pass on that one.

Still, I've not been able to help but question him since I found out he ditched his babymomma and newborn child back in Cuba to defect to the United States and become a millionaire.

IF the Reds knew about this and withheld the info couldn't they face penalty from MLB?

Joe Torre said today that MLB was not made aware of the incident until last night. Good old Walt and company tried to sweep this under the rug. I'd assume there will be disciplinary action for trying to hide it from the league.
