Johnson Central - "don't get no respect."

Featured Replies

I wish JC all the luck in the world. They do have a tough road ahead of them but I favor them as we were treated well when we played there, other than the games being way too close for comfort.

WHAT?! WHAT?! SORRY, ALL I CAN HEAR IS "CRAZY TRAIN"! CAN YOU WRITE IT DOWN FOR ME?!

Okay, joking a bit. Just a bit.

Yeah there is also no rule on running up the score on very weak teams. It's called sportsmanship and ethics.

If folks don't like it then they should work harder to stop it.

If kicking a FG is considered running up the score on a weak opponent then they probably would have forfeited had the JV team scored.

Just saying.......

Yeah but sometimes its impossible to stop someone no matter how hard you or your team tries. Sometimes you just aint good.

As they continue to grow and continue to win, the R-E-S-P-E-C-T will come.

I dont think its that teams or coaches dont have respect for JC, they dont have respect for Matney.

I will also add ALOT of people want JC to lose because of their coach.

Many despise him for runnin up the scores and how he let his kicker get state record for longest FG

He is not likes by many at all.

To say that he is not liked by many at all is a bit broad. Has he rubbed some people wrong? Of course. Every coach with success has, but the people who do not like him are in the minority. I know several who do not exchange Christmas cards with Matney but he is a great person who cares about his kids and his community. Coaching is about your commitment to your team not to others.

Would I have beat some of the teams the way he did? No. But also remember some of these teams were the same ones beating others like drums, but get their panties in a twist when the shoe is on the other foot.

Matney Probably has a few accounts to help show no respect to his team!

Believe me: he could have run scores up way, way more than he has. He intentionally avoids running clocks so he can get his young kids into the games. The field goals? Also ways to avoid running up the scores while getting your player recognition. If you've seen him speak after a game, you know he loves Johnson County and his school and his players. We could have South Warrened our schedule for years now. We prefer getting our young guys on the field early and getting them varsity snaps. Again, before you judge Coach, maybe you should know him. He's a family man, who loves his players, his team, and his community.

Darkness you know nothing about SW smith took his staters out in 2nd quater on at least 3 games .back up quarterback at end of season almost as much time as starter any time we got up by 36 running clock all staters were out .dont put SW in same boat as you

For all the faults people find with Matney... the one thing people do need to know is he the consummate "player's coach" and would just as soon run through a brck wall for his kids then see them done wrong.

I have never agreed with all of his antics...but it is 100% undeniable the passion he has for the game, the kids he coaches, and building the "community" aspect around his program.

#1 Why do you need respect?

#2 If you don't respect other people they rarely give any back.

i have said it on here multiple times. Jim Matney is one of the most loyal and sincere men I know when it comes to the people he loves. He is also the most competitive person I've ever known. I have no doubt that he puts his players and team as priority number one and that sometimes may be the Achilles heel that causes him to make decisions that bring the ire of some.

All of of the antics aside, I know him to be a Godly man, a dedicated leader, a loyal friend and a tough competitor. I would pick him to have my back in any situation and trust he would be there when I turn back around. If Jim is in your corner then you don't need much else.

We don't. We have our own boat. And we're happy to sail it.

Well said. Jim Matney is good man, great leader, and always always puts God first in everything he does (you should listen to his post game prayers at mid field win or lose). Everyone that knows or is around him likes him. His players LOVE him. How could you not love playing for someone who is always about your success?

I consider him a family friend and a school icon. I remember playing him when he was at Sheldon Clark. He drove us crazy. Because he knows all the rules, and he is a dogged supporter of his kids. Precisely why we love him now at JC. He IS the community. So glad he finally gets his shot. I want to cry FOR him. Nobody works harder or cares more for his players and his community. Brandon Smith may be a great coach. But he was brought up in an age of entitlement with his dad. Jim Matney was NOT, and he -and we - appreciate every second of this ride.
