Johnson Central - "don't get no respect."

Featured Replies

I consider him a family friend and a school icon. I remember playing him when he was at Sheldon Clark. He drove us crazy. Because he knows all the rules, and he is a dogged supporter of his kids. Precisely why we love him now at JC. He IS the community. So glad he finally gets his shot. I want to cry FOR him. Nobody works harder or cares more for his players and his community. Brandon Smith may be a great coach. But he was brought up in an age of entitlement with his dad. Jim Matney was NOT, and he -and we - appreciate every second of this ride.

It's clear that you know absolutely nothing about Brandon Smith or how he was brought up.

Perhaps not. But I know a culture of success, and I know a culture of fighting for respect.

I see you've studied at the Matney school of respect where you have to throw shade on other people. Chuck Smith BUILT Boyle from as low a place as JC was and took them to HIGHER levels than JC. And Brandon Smith was there through it all.

Brandon is going to show folks a culture of success and a culture of fighting for respect on Sunday.

I did not mean to imply that he hasn't earned what he has gotten. Just he was brought up in the culture of his multi-state title winning father's program. When you're born into winning, it makes winning easier. Never did I mean it to suggest he wasn't a good player or isn't a good coach in his own right. Just the paths are different.

Your'e not reading or not listening. When Brandon was born Chuck wasn't even at Boyle. When Chuck went to Boyle it was a doormat. They built the winner just like Matney.

I know Chuck built it. His son benefited from his father's knowledge and wisdom. Those are fine things to pass on. Matney is trying to do what Chuck Smith did. And it's hard. We've learned it is hard.

When you set up the wall of us against the world like Matney has in a matter of time it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Matney leared football somewhere from someone. Was he born with a silver spoon too?

You really hate Matney dont you? Did he take your girl? Does he owe you money? I really dont understand your disdain for such a solid individual.

I think I have more of a problem with TheDarkness but I have met Matney shook his hand and sat very near him at a couple of ballgames and i'm not on the bandwagon, no.

Fair enough. But the kids love him. The community loves him. The parents love him. He is big in his church and they love him. The school loves him. He wins everywhere he goes and puts lots of kids into various levels of college programs. He takes alot of backlash on himself so they can succeed. He is loyal to his friends. He has won the region in wrestling 9 straight years at JC with numerous state champions.

Its really hard not to like this guy and or at least respect what he has been able to accomplish.

Hey. All I said was Brandon Smith has a coaching pedigree and grew up with a many time state champion coach as his father. Is any of this untrue, or demeaning? It means he's a coach's kid and probably a good coach himself. I'm not Matney's biographer, but I believe he played for Coach Roddy at Belfry and once held the KY state record for interceptions. And I respect him to the end for what he did at Sheldon Clark and what he has done at Johnson Central. Nothing but respect from me for the Smith family. Perhaps I was misconstrued.

Also, I think this isn't nearly the biggest mismatch at state. 6A and maybe 2A may be worse. FWIW.

There's what you actually said and what i've been pointing out as false. Don't let any facts get in your way of a good story, or stop you from throwing shade on someone else to make your coach look good.
