Message boards have become one of the main forums used by fans to discuss their teams and give their thoughts on upcoming match-ups, serving as the 21st-century, online water cooler for sports fans.

 

Let's be honest...message boards are fun.

At times, the information found therein is insightful. Other times, it is funny, as fans take jabs at opposing teams. But more often that not, message boards provide a wealth of bulletin board material that serve as motivation for players and coaches alike.

 

It appears that few are giving Johnson Central any chance to stay even remotely close with South Warren High School, the representative from the western side of the Class 4A bracket. Some are even questioning whether or not the Golden Eagles will even score.

I still say JC dont score and if they do its on the SW JV Team.

I like Johnson Central and love watching their offense. With that being said, by listening to some of their fans you would think they had won as any state titles as a Trinity, a Highland, or a St X. They can be very arrogant and hard to take at times, but I still say Go Eagles!

I'll take this comment a step further and say the entire 4A Championship game has made me chuckle a bit.

 

Not only are JC fans demanding respect, but on the other side you have South Warren doing their own little dog and pony show of self entitlement as well.

 

The Spartan fans don't just want respect...they want people to bow at the feet of the team who needed realignment to finally get them over the hump.. but now they want to contend the KHSAA should schedule them and Male for Statewide Supremacy

Maybe both can now beef up the sched with more BIG boy teams like X, Male, Trinity, Highlands now that both are GODS gift to football.

On a side note, wasn't the Johnson Central team displaced / disrupted early in the season, or maybe pre-season because of flooding ? I thought I recalled seeing news of the JC football team and community working to help some flood victims.

 

I believe their respect comes from understanding how they can impact their community as a team in a number of ways both on and off the field.

....and for those reasons alone I would wish them a State Championship. Congrats for them getting to where they are given the community setbacks. I'm sure it had to have an impact on individual players lives

If I am not mistaken I saw a clip of Matney getting emotional talking about this very thing and even mentioning that one of their players who played a key role hasn't had a home of his own all season

Nice thread. I feel like JC gets no respect from SW fans but plenty from other fan bases. The Belfry / JC game traditionally has the most informed and well respected fans I see on a yearly basis and both get along great and are proud of each others accomplishments as they represent the mountains.

 

I dont think JC fans feel like they are world beaters and most feel like JC is an underdog in the championship game (rightfully so as SW is very good). JC fans just dont feel like they are that big of an underdog (in the 6.5-8 point range - not the 28-35 range).

 

In the end respect is earned through competition, not through words and I really think this game could be the best of all 6 at WKU. I suspect SW will not load the box and instead try to stop the run with a 4 man front. If they do that it wont work against JC. Its hard to prepare for a Matney team if you havent seen them and they are very very strong physically and like contact. I also think JC's defense is good enough to slow down SW (evidence - the Lexington Catholic game and all their athletes - JC nearly had a running clock on them).

 

The post's that get me the most is when people say SW has too many athletes on the field for JC. Have you seen JC? They got several really nice athletes as well. Multiple State Championship Wrestlers. College baseball prospects. Currently have 5 former players playing football at various levels. Current TE Noah Frisby with offers from Purdue, etc. Bryce Workman, Blake Martin, Tyrese Allen, Geordan Blanton all with several college options to play. But they dont have athletes, just a bunch of big slow kids that run into a pile and fall down. Keep thinking that.

 

I have seen 3 game films of SW and they are not at the level of Trinity or Male. They are top 5 in the state IMO, but just not at that level yet. Again, just my opinion.
