Johnson Central - "don't get no respect."

Featured Replies

Nobody is throwing shade. Brandon Smith was a fine player and a great coach. If you're looking for disrespect from JC, you won't get it. We know what they've done at Boyle. We know what he's doing at South. We know we are in for a war Sunday.

I think I have more of a problem with TheDarkness but I have met Matney shook his hand and sat very near him at a couple of ballgames and i'm not on the bandwagon, no.

I think? Your not sure. Maybe your misconstrued. Whether you like Matney or not is one thing, but you should respect Matney for the job he has done at JC. Taking them from a doormat to a title contender, just as Chuck Smith did Boyle with a little more success.

And if you met the Matneys...you can't help but love them. Best people on earth.

It came off as shade. The word entitlement is never used in a complimentary manner.

I think the point that TheDarkness was shooting for is that Brandon Smith grew up in a program that was viewed throughout the state as a powerhouse program, which was deserved. They were viewed in that light based what they accomplished, not on what they failed to accomplish.

Johnson Central is a different story. While Matney has done nothing but win since he arrived at JC, the program has been characterized not by the undefeated seasons, multiple District and Regional Titles and playoff success, but rather the inability to surpass one of the greatest programs in the history of Kentucky.

Even our own local television station, one that prides itself on positive coverage for mountain kids, made the statement on air that it didn't matter that JC advanced another round in the playoff last year because "they couldn't beat Covington Catholic". That is despite the fact that under Jim Matney JC has a .500 record against the Cov Cath.

You will probably disagree with me but I don't believe his statement was negative toward Brandon Smith. It was merely to point out the different paths these two coaches have taken.

Nailed exactly what I meant.
