Shoulder surgery

Featured Replies

Well I need to get shoulder surgery on December 21st for a rotator cuff / bicep sublaxtion. I really hate this as I had a lot planned for this coming year, including returning to Israel for more training, thankfully they have agreed to either refund all of my money or hold it and I can take the same course at a later date.

Has anyone else had a similar surgery?

I haven't had the surgery myself, but know many that have. Most of the people that have diligently performed the physical therapy have been pleased with the results...

I had torn my rotator cuff and did not realize how bad until I couldn't lift my arm. My shoulder had also dislocated. I had the repair four years ago, they repaired the tear, drilled the joint deeper, reset my shoulder and pinned a ligament across it so it can't dislocate again. The story has a happy ending, I did rigorous PT and haven't had a problem since. Do ALL of the therapy. I guess the surgeon gets most of the credit. I would have it again on the other shoulder if needed. It was right for me.

Good luck sir. My shoulder has been sore as hell the past couple of days, it comes and goes. I've had a separated shoulder and torn labrum for over a decade. Doctor basically said I could have surgery and maybe it fixes things or keep it as is and rest it when the pain increases. I've been able to bench at or above 300 lbs since high school. So I've just never felt like surgery was really necessary.

I know that the pain can be excruciating. Good luck to you.

Mamaw, you need to take it easier on poor old pawpaw. Either that or retire from football. Geez, that sounds painful.

Wishing you all the best buddy!

Had rotator and bi-cep surgery on August 14 th, doing great, just remember it is a slow process healing, but no regrets, do all the rehab you can do, my only problem at all was trying to sleep with that arm sling on. Best of luck and rehab, rehab, rehab.

Four years ago I had an impingement (bone spur) that irritated my rotator cuff and labrum which ultimately lead to two tears of the rotator cuff and the labrum. I had it all fixed. The results were amazing. However the first three days after surgery were brutal. Unfortunately, a similar situation is developing in my other shoulder, and I will have surgery NEXT TUESDAY. I will let you know how it goes. Good luck with yours!!!

Closest thing I've ever had was a frozen shoulder. General anesthesia, the doc manipulates the shoulder to break apart adhesions. In physical therapy a couple of hours after the procedure. PT for several weeks, a combination of exercise, ice water therapy and electrical stimulation.

Never got to 100 percent, probably around 80. Good enough to hack with a golf club, just not good enough to throw the heater.

Had surgery to clean up some spurs 20 years ago. Shoulder still irritates me quite a bit but I know when it's going to rain. Good luck the director trips to PT.

I had surgery for a torn labrum back 2 years ago my best advice for shoulder surgery, is listen to your physical therapist. I wasn't as good of a patient as I should have been. The therapist told me I shouldn't do even little things like washing my hair with my repaired shoulder for the first month or so, but I didn't listen and it put me at a setback. It is a pain in the butt, but be patient. My arm never recovered to the strength it was before and I credit it to my stubbornness.

Didn't know you were due for fixing. Good luck with that.

Hope everything goes ok.

Thanks!! Hopefully, I didn't wait too long like I did with the other shoulder, so it won't be so bad.
