November 23, 201510 yr I know this is not a new topic, but I feel the need to bring it back up. I love Thanksgiving, even more than Christmas. You get to enjoy each other's company, eat a great meal, followed by games, laughs, and family time. A nice relaxed holiday. Now, dinner is barely over and the stores open for Christmas! I HATE THIS! Isn't Black Friday good enough? Is the retail business hurting so badly that they have to entice shoppers away from another very important holiday? Even worse, is to make people work in retail when they should be home! I only have one guest leaving to shop, but the whole thing irritates me to no end!
November 23, 201510 yr I agree as well. I was forced to go after thanksgiving once before. Never again. I won't support these days.
November 23, 201510 yr I would never go before 6AM on Black Friday. If I would ever work retail it would be to get some extra money but I would refuse to work on days such as Thanksgiving night, if they say I have to then I'll walk. Same if I had kids who were told they had to work, they would quit. Holidays such as Thanksgiving and Christmas are more important, and so are family and friends.
November 23, 201510 yr I hate shopping any other day of the year so I certainly wouldn't subject myself to Black Friday shopping. I hate that stores are open on Thanksgiving too. Christmas keeps coming earlier and earlier every year.
November 23, 201510 yr I've been part of the problem the last couple of years. But I will not be this year and won't moving forward. I'm okay with sales starting at midnight or 10pm. That's just because all my family stuff on Thanksgiving is well done by then (My real Thanksgiving is on Friday at my Grandparents anyway). However, I'm hearing doors are opening at 3:00pm for some stores? The couple movies I might have picked up aren't worth it and I don't want to participate in that nonsense.
November 23, 201510 yr I agree with BWF wholeheartedly. Seconded. Stay home. Eat at home. Be with your family at home. That way all those people at all those stores can do the same thing with their families as well someday. You'll never see me in a store on Thanksgiving.
November 23, 201510 yr One thing that is forgotten as we all like to sit around and complain...these two days of shopping are like the SuperBowl for some people (mostly women). Men and the Super Bowl -Read every analysis on the game -Will watch 5 hours of pre-game -Compare player vs player and match up vs match up all week -Snacks and drinks planned out a week or more in the future -Location planning, where are we watching it, where are we sitting -Will yell and scream to tell people to sit down if they block their view -Will collapse exhausted after the game and go to bed Women and Black Friday -Memorize every ad -Will watch 5 hours of football on Thanksgiving just to catch latest Black Friday Ads on TV -Compares prices and deals store by store searching for the best deal -Starbucks or McCafe Lattes to get the day going and brunch after it's over a must -Divide and Conquer, they take an Ad and decide who's grabbing what in the store and where they will meet up so they can get in and out as quick as possible -Will yell and scream to tell people to move out of their way if they block their path -Will come home exhausted and then finish dishes from Thanksgiving and start decorating the house for Christmas, while the men are too hung over on tryptophan to get out of their recliners
November 23, 201510 yr I won't hate on people for going shopping and getting these deals though. Some of these families, it's one of the few ways that they are able to try and provide a nice little Christmas for their kids/families. My grandparents live in a small town and I'd imagine the median household income isn't all that high so when Walmart has everything on sale, it's extremely hard for them to pass up. Some people need the deals. It's a shame they can't spend Thanksgiving with thier families and then take advantage of these deals the next day.
November 23, 201510 yr I worked 28 out of 30 Black Thursday/Friday sales...it was honestly a pretty easy day at work. It was the days leading up to it that sucked the most...the preparation and planning that goes into that few hours each year is crazy compared to anything else. The only comparison to the time energy and effort that goes into Black Friday is prepping for Inventory. I've worked at stores that did over $1million dollars in sales on Black Friday alone.

Most of the deals are available on-line this year...just sit at home and shop in your PJ's!!!
November 23, 201510 yr I'll agree that it's hard to blame folks who need the big discounts from taking advantage of them. There's probably a big Bellocian rant about what all this means in here somewhere but suffice it to say that I just don't care for the whole thing.
November 23, 201510 yr I will not shop Thanksgiving either but knew a guy who worked at the casino boat and he said many employees WANT to work on Christmas and Thanksgiving due to being from broken homes growing up and now have no family per se. They would rather be at work those two days rather than at home being reminded how screwed up their family is.
