I will not shop Thanksgiving either but knew a guy who worked at the casino boat and he said many employees WANT to work on Christmas and Thanksgiving due to being from broken homes growing up and now have no family per se. They would rather be at work those two days rather than at home being reminded how screwed up their family is.

I get that. Plus, those that come to gamble are probably in a similar situation. But the gambling places aren't enticing people out of their homes with "door busters" and " must have items."

I know it is old fashioned, but I liked it when all the stores were closed and the bargains started the next day.

Good for her! And I also have to agree with you on one point...I hate shopping all years long!

It just another example of how so many people are a slave to the idea of Santa. I honestly feel that my life would be better off without the concept of what Christmas has become. It is easily my least favorite holiday.

Bull, Many, Many, MANY, people work on holidays that are not in retail, you dont hear those people griping.

 

If you dont want to work on a holiday, get a job where you dont have to. You dont like companies that have their employees work on a Holiday, dont shop with them....but also got need medical attention, dont need a police officer, dont need a fireman, dont need gas to get to grandmas house.

Worst fights that have occurred over the past several years at Walmart were not over TV's or Game Systems or IPhones...they were over Towels and Sheets. It got so bad the last few years that I was there we had to assign a Police Officer to stand with the towels just to keep people from killing each other to get Bathroom Towels. One lady had to be forcibly removed from the store for trying to jump over another woman just to get to the towels. First lady was kinda short and the second one tried to leapfrog her with both hands on her shoulders trying to leap over her to get in front of her.

None that I could remove from the store...I have a couple of good videos but none of those. We were WARNED in no uncertain manner that copying video from in-store incidents and releasing it or taking it out of the store unless for court proceedings would get us unceremoniously terminated.

 

I did have one on a thumb drive where a guy elbows another on top of the head like a wrestling move but the file is old and is now corrupted and won't play. It was from Black Friday and was over board games I believe, guy climbed up about a foot on a stack of merchandise and came off with an elbow...then ran like heck to get out of the store.

My point has nothing to do with people working on the holiday. It has more to do with how for a lot of people a large part of their life revolves around making sure that everybody is happy at Christmas, trying to make Chrismas "perfect", spending money that they don't have simply to try to live up to societies expectations.

 

So much of Christmas these days has nothing to do with what Christmas is suppose to be about.

You are correct. I have no problem with people working on the holidays especially if they choose to, in fact when I worked in the restaurant industry I would volunteer to work a double shift on Christmas Eve. The money was too good not do, of course that was before I was married and had kids, probably wouldn't make the same choice today.

 

My issue is more with the mindset of people who have to wake up to get in line at 3:00 A.M. to have a boxing match over the lasted Elmo doll or whatever the seasons must have product is that particular year.

This is exactly what I am talking about and why I really hate what Christmas has become. I saw Christmas items in my local Wal-Mart this year before Halloween.
