How about Andrew Taylor from Corbin? Is he close to making the top 25? I know that he has at least a couple of D1 offers already going into his Sophomore year.

Early last season in his sophomore year I was singing the praises of Cole VonHandorf predicting that by his senior year he'd be in the Mr. B discussion. Many shot me down as if that was the most ridiculous thing they had ever heard (You know who you are, but I've forgotten).

 

Here he is picked as the pre-season top junior.

 

Barring any injuries it's not too far of a stretch now to see him selected next season as the top senior in the state in the pre-season polls. If not tops, at least top 3, and definitely in the Mr. Basketball discussion.

It's hard for me to think Harris shouldn't be in the top 25. He's a special guard

The coaches are the people used for these rankings. That is, the coaches that turned in their ballots.

List like these are always argued by nature because as objective as the author tries to be, no one sees every kid play, nor can they compare their attributes consistently. My advice for the kids that made the list congratulations and keep working to stay there........to those that didn't keep working and doing the right things and regardless of list.......you and your team will succeed.

As a friend said today, if you as a player worry about individual rankings, maybe TEAM sports aren't for you.

 

I disagree. It's a drive to be the best that differentiates a high level athlete from a good one. Even professional players will still say they want to be know and recognized as the best. It's inherent in these kids, and the very fact we publish it makes it matter. If rankings in team sports didn't matter why would the very coaches of those teams put out a list? Now statistics are a whole different story, but stats are not what makes a player on this list.

Of course PPG, and other stats, are relevant. But there are players on this list with PPG averages of 10, 11 & 12. There are many kids throughout the state with those types of averages, and better, that didn't make the list.

 

Whether you agree or disagree with the list, there are a lot of other factors that play into who makes it. Other things such as rebounds, assists, blocks. defense, ball handling, leadership, etc.. And, like with the voting in college and the NBA, playing for a winning team certainly helps.

Umm. So is their school. Is that bad too? My point was a if that's out only to get theirs is when the issues start. That's selfish. Wanting to recognized as one of the best is human nature. Plenty of ways to get that, and stats aren't the only way. If so couple kids in NKy should be in that list.
