Other scores against comparably ranked teams. BG over #24 Cent Hardin 42-6 FC over #60 Fairdale 17-7.

Bowling Green is the better team here. They have played a tougher schedule and they have been challenged by better teams. This team also has the motivation of what happened to them last year.

They absolutely should show up. Its the playoffs and single game elimination.

Great word, Macdon. Teams have to be ready to play for sure. Many Purples (coaches, players and fans) still are in shock from last year. I think them laying an egg last year is going to really help them this year. Many alumni will hang out at the EL Thursday night to give some extra motivation.

For anyone who cares (probably only a few), Jamele Caruthers has a real chance of breaking Avery Hibbitt as alltime leading scorer at BGHS. I believe he needs 31 TDS and the record is his. Only problem is, I believe BGHS will have atleast 5 or 6 (or more) running clocks next season. He is pretty much a machine right now, next year forget about it!!

DFire, thanks for this! Adams is now the All Time leading rusher at Greenwood as a sophomore. That's pretty impressive!

Caruthers is outstanding, but lets not act like Hibbitt played in a lot of 4 quarter games from 2004-2006. The 2006 BG team had 9 D1 players on it. Hibbitt probably played in double the amount of running clock games Caruthers has/will play in.

Should have addressed those. BG seemed to be struggling some for that two game period of St X and the first OHS game. The loss to X and the close win over OHS seemed to be the catalyst that got this team focused and playing well.

 

As to the 14-0 win over DeSales? Shouldn't a top 5A team handle a top 2A team? If FC had lost to DeSales I would see that as more of a bad loss than beating them was a good win. I see that as a game FC certainly should have won and possibly by a greater margin.

 

The private school domination of Jefferson Co football kind of skews things. Trinity, St X, DeSales, CAL, then public Male are the dominant teams. It looks like everyone else, FC excepted this year, is really bad. I was surprised at the plus 100 rankings of so many Jefferson Co public schools.

Didn't Bowling Green scrimmage Manual and defeat Manual in that scrimmage when varsity played against each other? 21-6 or something like that?

 

Why did you not include that? Or is this another one of those scrimmages don't count moments?

To answer macdon, to me top teams are top teams regardless of class. CAL, DeSales, Mayfield, Belfry, Central, among others have gone toe to toe with good teams in the upper classes and either competed well with them or beaten them. That is why DeSales is #17 in the state regardless of class. A good win against a top team is a good win. I don't always agree with the rankings but that seems to be the measuring stick we have.

As for the scrimmage, no I do not put a lot into those. Too many coaches have told me they are trying to find out what they have and where the pieces fit and the depth they have and were not trying to "win" a scrimmage. Too many variables -- returning starters, coaching staffs and their philosophy towards scrimmages, personnel, change of schemes, etc all play into it. Games are games and the coach is trying to win, nothing else. I put more emphasis on that.
