War Memorial stadium...home of ur 11 time, (3 time current defending) state champions..a place that many teams' dreams have been shattered...Mayfield has only been beat once in regular season at home sense 2007( 6a Mccracken in OT).but Mayfield has not lost a home playoff game sense playing murray in the second round of the 1997 playoffs..so to all the Desales fans, when u step into our home (War Memorial) remember at that moment ur no longer in colt country, you've entered cardinal nation..go big red!! If Desales and CALs defenses are both better than Mayfields, I'll have to see it.. Mayfield has the best quartet of linebackers they've ever had.. They pursue sideline to sideline as well as any I've seen, they all bring speed and they all lay the wood to you and rarely miss a tackle or get caught out of position.. OB Catholic is most likely the best offensive team in 2a and Mayfield held them to 13 points with 6 of those in the last minute when the game was out of reach and the Cards in a prevent where a DB lost his footing and fell down. Against the run, the Cards are excellent. The secondary has great speed and cover well. They are a little on the short side for DBs, but, they've held their own all year and unless Desales has multiple WRs with height, they should be fine. The 3 man front of Jackson, Hernandez and Mills have a ton of games under their belts, and they have decent size their at 240, 240 and 200.. They'll all get after the QB.. From what little I've seen of Desales, they're pretty generic offensively and while they have good size, don't have much speed.. IMO, that's not a good combination against Mayfield.. Unless they've got some secrets in that playbook that they've been hiding all year, I don't see them scoring a whole lot unless they turn the Mayfield offense over and get some short fields to work with.. Barring that the turnovers are fairly equal, I like Mayfields chances..

You know i'm just messing with you. This match up is what we all wanted. Lets have fun with it.

I don't like the weather forecast for Friday. Maybe I am wrong and hope I am, but the field will likely be a sloppy mess if the forecast holds out. That can neutralize our speed advantage somewhat. Regardless, it is at War Memorial on Thanksgiving weekend, which is a tough task for any visiting team. It will be a close game. No score predictions from me. Two very good teams who pride themselves on defense in the semi finals.....it's gonna be a slobber knocker. Love it!

This is the game we've talked about from the preseason! It will be a great game. Am hoping the weatherman is wrong. I will take Mayfield 24-21. Its a long bus ride from Louisville!

As far as local in Mayfield, I am not a fan of chain restaurants, so my favorite pre game meals are

Mid Town (not a fancy place by any stretch, but still a long standing iconic greasy spoon. Good BBQ, burgers, dogs, and shakes.

 

Majestic- my favorite pizza around. Good buffet too, but I always get the pizza. It's a Greek owned restaurant, so if you like Greek style food, this is your place.

 

Los Amigos- typical Mexican restaurant, but good food and environment and it's clean

 

With that said, if you want a real treat, leave a little early and stop off in Grand Rivers (you will drive right by it anyway) to visit Patti's 1880s for the best pork chop you will ever eat. If you've never been, you need to give it a try. Fantastic environment and the food is even better. Good steaks too, but the 2 inch thick pork chops are just awesome. Think country version of Lynn's Paradise Cafe on steroids....except, Patti's didn't mysteriously shut down over night, and the food is better.

 

On a side note, Somebody will likely tell you to have the Hot Brown at Chow 45, but since you live in the land where it was invented, you will just be disappointed.

This happens ever so often thru the years. A team has their best team ever, and they think since this is their best team ever, that they are the best team ever. Desales' fans are happy for, and proud of, their best team ever.

 

That lofty perch you all have earned is where Mayfield lives, for the past thirty years. You may win, you may lose. But you aint nothing special. Not to us. Teams are always good in the semi-finals. We are used to playing teams at the peak of their success. Those teams, including yours, are not used to playing us.

 

This week's prediction....the colts get branded with a big ole red M.
