Ben Carson lied about West Point scholarship

Featured Replies

Carson's campaign on Friday conceded that a central point in his inspirational personal story did not occur as he previously described.

Ben Carson’s campaign on Friday admitted, in a response to an inquiry from POLITICO, that a central point in his inspirational personal story was fabricated: his application and acceptance into the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.

The academy has occupied a central place in Carson’s tale for years. According to a story told in Carson’s book, “Gifted Hands,” the then-17 year old was introduced in 1969 to Gen. William Westmoreland, who had just ended his command of U.S. forces in Vietnam, and the two dined together. That meeting, according to Carson’s telling, was followed by a “full scholarship” to the military academy.

I'm just hoping that he also had lied about some of his completely insane beliefs.

So, from what I can gather from the article...seems like the basic theme of the story is accurate, but there may be some semantics (full scholarship) going on, maybe a slight embellishment?

Hummm. Don't think I would call that a lie.

"I never had relations with that woman...Monica Lewinski"...that's an example of a lie.

Unfortunately, a question related to this fabrication likely won't be asked at the next GOP debate on Fox Business News. Media members -- or at least those who have their checks signed by Rupert Murdoch -- have been instructed to only ask "nice" questions from now on.

Well...BGP has practically ruined Carson's Presidential run :lol2:

Clearly the best way to handle this will be to have years of congressional hearings lol.

Which is worse or are the same?

1.Claiming you were offered a full scholarship to West Point when you weren't.

2.Claiming you landed in Bosnia under sniper fire when you didn't.

Maybe he met Westmoreland inside the pyramid that Joseph built lol.

Bill Clinton

Read my lips, no new taxes.

G. Bush

example of a lie.

Add him to the growing list of dishonest presidential candidates. What's stupid is the story isn't even important but the character flaw is.

From what I have heard this morning is that Dr. Carson, being young and naive, misunderstood what was being said to him. The General was explaining entrance to West Point, but the youthful B. Carson was hearing something else. Which, from having a lot of association with teens, I can see that point. If that is the case, nothing to these accusations, if not, then the Dr. will some explaining to do.

Agreed.

Rough couple of days for Dr Carson and his credibility. Something came out yesterday about him changing the story about some stabbing story from his youth.

Doesn't the story question whether the meeting between Carson and Westmoreland even took place, with Westmoreland's records showing him playing tennis in Washington and not having dinner with Carson?
