I have the potential to end up at a poker game any day of the week, so I got to keep cash on me! HAHA

Didn't know about the ATM's, I'm glad there's that option. I haven't used one in 25 years. The fees drove me nuts.

 

Fifth Third reimburses me on all of my ATM fees, regardless of who's ATM I am using.

I usually keep $50 on me for incidentals, like valet parking.

 

I never use a debit card.

 

Most of my transactions are done by a credit card that pays me to use it and that I pay the balance off every month, the day the statement is posted, automatically.

Rarely have cash. Using debit makes classifying spending easier in the budget tool on banks website

HMMM, didn't know that. I use 5/3 but always try to stick to using their machines to get my allowance.

I really never have my credit card or cash on me, always have a debit card. Quicker and "cleaner"

I always carry at least $100 plus. I pay for everything in cash except gas at my local BP. I don't trust cards. When eating out in Richmond or Lexington I pay with cash. I absolutely will not give my card to anyone unless I am looking directly at them during the transaction. Restaurant waiters/waitress take your card, go out of your sight, then bring it back for you to sign. In the meantime they could have copied all your vital info from your card and use it to order on line or whatever. I'm paranoid about that.

Also, it drives me crazy at our golf course clubhouse when someone buys $3 in food or drinks and pays with a card. Unless it's something in the range of $20 or more I never use my card.

I always carry cash on me. I have no checkbook, and a debit card only for one account that has limited balance. I go to the bank and personally withdrawal whatever I need for the week/period. If I see something that I want, but don't have the money on me, then either I go to the bank to get the cash, or I just don't get it. We have one of those "Green Dot" prepaid credit cards if we HAVE to have a card to purchase something.

I try to always carry cash if I can help it. Granted, it's a lot easier to do since I've been working a side job for tips. But even if I'm short on cash and I'm going out, I'll try to hit the ATM first and use that to limit myself (which rarely works).

I rarely have more than $20 on me. I use my debit card for nearly everything. I also keep a couple $'s in coins in my car for parking if needed.

 

Rockmom mentioned the Acorns app. I am a big fan. I've been using it for one year...I've saved over $1200. Completely painless, the easiest way I've ever found to save and invest money.

I'm surprised by the number of people that use a debit card, rather than a credit card, in this thread. I don't always carry a debit card, and I never use it, unless I'm getting money out of an ATM.

I almost never have cash. I pay my bills with online billpay. I pay the majority of everything else on my Amex. Pay it off every month and collect the points.

I try to carry at $20 just so I don't have to run to the ATM for one of the zillion things the kids need from school- books, fees, candy fundraisers, tickets, donations, etc.

Pretty much every gas station in the country has ATM machines in them now days. They should be good.
