Looking at the 3A district standings, there are six teams that have been eliminated from the playoffs. A few are involved in a tiebreaker so I'm not including them. If you are the coach of one of those teams, what methods do you use to motivate them for what would appear to be a meaningless game? If you are the home team, I'm sure you'd play up the senior night aspect. And of course you appeal to the fact that they likely will never get to play another game. But would it be difficult to get them ready to play?

With the number of teams that make the playoffs and I'm just guessing it's 85% of the teams in the entire state there shouldn't be ANY team that doesn't make the playoffs. Put them all in if you're putting 85% in.

If they did not even make the playoffs in this current everyone gets an ice cream cone system, then I would say there is probably not much to be done.

What makes a game meaningless? Do you like football? Its a chance to compete and win. Its a chance to enjoy a game that you have put a lot of time and effort into. I don't think its meaningless. There are lots of these games every week in the 2nd half of the college season where teams know they aren't making the playoffs or making a bowl game. There are games in the 2nd half of the NFL season where the team has been eliminated from the playoff picture. You play the game because thats what you do. If they don't like to play games maybe they need to not be playing in the first place.

Focus on sending the Seniors out a winner.

Fans love playoffs. Coaches and kids love the game. Shouldn't be that hard if you have scheduled right.

 

I put this on the other teams that didn't make it thread. I think these teams should schedule an 11th game with a non-playoff team. Split the gate flip who hosts.

I'd recommend all that has been stated but to make things a little fun in the game and in practice I would install trick plays. I'd work on my onside kick, fake punts, double reverses, wildcat, hook & ladder (Morris to Ogbagu) and anything the kids can think of. I think you let the QB pick the plays they want to run and allow your Defensive captain to pick the defense

It can go terrible or it can go great from what I've seen.

 

Seniors are either gonna have to decide if they'll put their head down and take another L, or end their careers with a bang. Underclassman can get a boost off of this, they still have more football to play they need some momentum heading into next year.

For everyone who complains about to many bad teams in the playoffs, just remember that every team in KHSAA basketball makes the playoffs and also in baseball.
