Central Hardin vs Western Kentucky

Featured Replies

After wrapping up the regular season this Friday against Woodford County, Central Hardin starts its quest for a region title. They will play Ohio County in the first round with their eyes on a potential matchup with McCracken County for the region final and a trip to the semifinals.

The Bruins have advanced to the 6A state quarterfinals the past two seasons and are still looking for that statement win this year.

Western Kentucky is about the best region to be in this year for the 6A playoffs and should provide both teams with a clear path to the region championship.

Thoughts? Who wins and why.

It may be simultaneously the easiest region to be in and the hardest semi-state to be in.

Let's just call it what it is:

The Hardin County Schools (County only..not including Etown) are all quality teams...but were also dramatically over-inflated to start the season.

Outside of beating each other up their resume is pretty mundane.. between Central Hardin, John Hardin, and North Hardin:

Against teams currently ranked in the Top 10 of their respective Class in the BGP rankings:

2-9

Those wins were against Paducah Tilghman by CH (48-25) and Monroe County by NH (26-18)

Considering John Hardin was being hyped as a 4A Title Contender, Central Hardin as a possible Top 5 6A team, and North Hardin as a possible Top 10 6A team this is a pretty "Blah" resume in hindsight.

With that said, both CH and JH have favorable playoff paths and may very well make a deep run... but if we were to do a statewide "Most Disappointing" list the shortcomings of the Hardin County schools may be on it.

Central Hardin's best chance maybe ever to make it to semi-state. Are they healthy enough to make the run?

I thought last year was their best chance when they were undefeated and had Meade County at home in the regional final. Instead, Meade absolutely dominated them. I can't see them going to McCracken County and winning in the regional final this year.

Can they beat Henderson? Don't put them in the finals just yet

At home, I'd say yes. Henderson is playing better but I'm not sure they are good enough to win at Central Hardin.

This what they said 2 years ago when CH went to McCracken and beat them...this is the time of season when upsets can happen to anyone....plus you can't just put 9 in the box against CH anymore...CH does throw now

Disagree with this statement as far as JH goes. No JH fan thought this team was a power house. Still young and senior class is small and not a lot of talent. If they make the state semifinals it will be a huge success story.

Hold your " most disappointing schools list until after the season. First off you are out of touch with schools in this region.

Central Hardin, went undefeated for the first time ever last season, has won the district for a 2nd straight time, first time ever, will probably make it to the region final and could very easily win that game. This is a program that did not have very many winning seasons before Coach perry, and then Mattingly arrived.

John is John and will be right in the thick of the playoff race at the end of November.

North is North, who said they were going to win anything?

If Central Hardin plays McCracken County in the region final and wins, that would make them a top 5 team, right?

Lets look at win/ loss records of competition before making false accusations. E-town would come to mind first, dismal record of competition. Central, John and North would all be undefeated against those teams.

Central's three losses have come to the number 1 teams in 3 classifications..

I'd like to see Central Hardin win the region...they have come a long way the last 8 years.

Yes, Central Hardin used to be hard too watch and are only 4 years removed from a 48- 0 beating at home by John Hardin. The growth of the youth leagues in Hardin County and a coach that has brought toughness and a winning attitude are the components to establishing a winning program. Bowling Green is the model of success from the middle school through the high school program in Kentucky. Hardin County schools can only hope that through hard work, attracting quality coaches, and dedication, that they can reach the level of winning consistency that Bowling Green has established.

Henderson county just worried about beating Owensboro this week. Never look ahead. If I'm not mistaking Henderson went 10-0 in the 90's and got beat by CH in first round of playoffs at home. Never count your chickens before they hatch.

No doubt.

In '93, a 1-9 Central Hardin team who had been playing the entire year without a injured Frank Moreua (former star RB for UL and the Kansas City Chiefs). They went to #1 seed Christian County and knocked them off when he returned.

Not necessarily because two very good Louisville schools will not advance past the quarterfinal. If Central Hardin performs better against the Louisville winner than those two teams then I'd agree, but if Central Hardin doesn't then those two teams were likely better and just had the misfortune of facing the Louisville winner earlier.
