Central Hardin vs Western Kentucky

Featured Replies

Not necessarily because two very good Louisville schools will not advance past the quarterfinal. If Central Hardin performs better against the Louisville winner than those two teams then I'd agree, but if Central Hardin doesn't then those two teams were likely better and just had the misfortune of facing the Louisville winner earlier.

Agreed.

Just because you're one of the final four or even one of the final 8 does NOT mean you're a top-five team (especially when two of the T-X-Male-Manual combination aren't even eligible).

An eastern Kentucky (regions 13-16) soccer team is ALWAYS guaranteed to be in the final 8 because of the setup.

Unranked teams make it to state all the time in volleyball, while a NATIONALLY RANKED team (Sacred Heart or Assumption) sits at home (because it lost to another nationally ranked team).

Being the survivor of a weak region (which is what District 1 and District 2 is in 6-A football) does NOT make you a top-five team ... especially if you become cannon fodder for the Male-T-X-Manual guantlet king.

This is a lot of "ifs and buts". The setup is how it is...and because of that a team that makes it up there can be considered top 5 because of finish. The best team rarely wins it all in anything in a win and advance one game setup. All it takes is a slip.

How so?

Everything he said was declarative and not qualified by 'if or buts'. The only time he uses 'if' is the very last sentence, and that was more polite than saying 'when'.

Also, in regards to your 'the best team rarely wins it all' when hasn't the best team in 6A won state? Can you give me a significant number of examples?

How does Central Hardin or McCracken County winning Region 1 (which has nobody in the top 7 in its class based on ANY poll or ranking) somehow make the MC-CH winner a top-five team?

It means you're one of the last four teams playing in your class, that's it.

Not sure how/why Central Hardin or McCracken would jump past Male-Trinity-X-Manual when CH and McCracken have been behind them all year long.

So lemme get this straight:

-- Central Hardin and McCracken pick up playoff wins against unranked teams

-- Manual/Male/Trinity/X beat better teams (than CH or MC) and then get knocked out by better teams (than CH or MC)

-- Therefor CH or MC has leapfrogged teams from the Region of Death.

Got it.

I guess?

I'm sorry, but, imo, Manual doesn't belong in the same conversation with the other Big 3, otherwise it'd be the Big 4.. Yeah, they're likely the next best team in Louisville, but, just because they're in a very tough district doesn't automatically make them better than teams from other areas.. Not sure that any of the power district teams will play any better teams than Region 1 and 2 will play..

Manual is still a top ten in 6A and ranked higher than any Western 6A team in both Capreps and BGP. They probably aren't 'Big Four' material, but even in the fourth seed last year they still beat McCracken in the first round.

In regards to the rest of Louisville: PRP is ranked higher in BGP (also top ten 6A) and Calpreps than all Western 6A teams except McCracken, and Ballard is ranked higher than all Western teams below McCracken and Central Hardin. Eastern and Butler are middle of the pack and J-town/Seneca are at the bottom.

Given that Ballard/Manual and Trinity/PRP play in the first round, and St.X/Trinity and Male/Manual will likely play in the second round, I'm not seeing how the games in the Western region stack up.

Both Central Hardin and PRP played Meade and John Hardin:

PRP: beat Meade 35-0, beat John Hardin 42-13

Central: beat Meade 41-21, beat John Hardin 28-21

We know Scott County and SK are top-five teams. So are Trinity and Male (albeit one won't be around for state semis due to same region). X is arguably there.

PRP is NOT even in the conversation, but PRP fared better against two teams than Central Hardin did.

I would like some logic that would suggest that McCracken or Central Hardin are top-five teams.

Current 6-A Rankings:

CalPreps/MaxPreps: McCracken 11, PRP 12, Central Hardin 13.

BGPreps: McCracken 7, PRP 8, Central Hardin unranked (not in top 10)

Litkenhous: McCracken 11, Central Hardin 12, PRP 13.

Cantrall: McCracken 11, Central Hardin 12, PRP 14.

AP: McCracken 6, Central Hardin 11, PRP unranked.

So:

- Neither McCracken or Central Hardin is in the top five of ANY poll/ranking/rating.

- Central Hardin is behind McCracken in 5/5 systems and behind PRP in 2/5.

- And we're not even taking Ryle, Cooper, Manual, Lafayette, Station and Ballard into account.

Yup.

Top-five seems about right for the McCracken-Central Hardin survivor (when neither has to go through a top-10 team to get there).

You'd have a better argument about E'town being a top-four team if it makes it to the state semis (and beats Caldwell and/or Tilghman in the process), but LexCath, Boyle, Central and Belfry all have better claims to top-four status (even though Central-Boyle-LexCath have to go through each other).

At least E'town is sixth in its class in two polls. Central Hardin isn't in the top 10 in any.

Yes Etown is ranked sixth and has played a cupcake schedule which inflates their ranking a little. McCracken or Central Hardin both have alot to prove no matter if they meet or not. All bow to the big 3 or the super district teams.:isurrender::dancingpa

Wow, didnt know I would start such a fire storm with a simple comment about Central Hardin being ranked top 5. Central Hardin was ranked # 2 last season based on their 10-0 record, but wont be top 10 at the end of this season because of their win-loss record ( 7-3). Even though they lost to the top team in 3A,4A,and 5A. I wouldnt say that last years team was any better than the current version of Central Hardin.

So, in the end, KY high school rankings come down to a teams win/ loss record.

Boyle is not ranked #1 in AAA. They didn't even win their district.

Yeah, that's the funny thing about being ranked in the top 5 in 6A. You have to beat some people. Beating people effect that ole win loss record.

You DON'T think Central Hardin's 2014 schedule (10-0) was cupcake compared to this year (about to be 7-3)?

Some people insist this Central Hardin team is better than last year's, but obviously playing BG, South Warren and Boyle is different than Mercer (2-8 in regular season last year), Greenwood (4-6 in regular season last year) and Indy Marshall.

Throw in Muhlenberg, North Hardin and Bullitt East (which a 6-A program SHOULD beat) in addition to a John Hardin team which people knew was going to have growing pains (and they did, they finished 7-7) and Central Hardin was expected/destined to have a great season last year.

But a favorable schedule -- just like E'town had this year -- made that happen. It's not like Central Hardin was going 10-0 regardless of who was in their path.

Remember, Central Hardin was winless in regulation TWICE against Meade County (won in OT, got beat by 22 in rematch) ... and Meade got running clocked the next game.

Regardless, barring an upset, Central Hardin's season will come down to a matchup with McCracken County in the Region final. Not sure either team has a chance against the big 3 from Louisville in the state semis unless, just like several years ago when Scott County beat Male, there is an upset.

Both Central Hardin and PRP played Meade and John Hardin:

PRP: beat Meade 35-0, beat John Hardin 42-13

Transitive properties don't work in sports! No offense, but I see some disdain in your posts toward CH. Any reason for that?
