Central Hardin vs Western Kentucky

Featured Replies

Oh, so only in the AP poll? That doesn't surprise me, as they tend to vote only by record and without considering who the team has played. Given how the playoffs turned out that should be proof enough that the AP poll was wrong.

I'm not arguing with that. I hope Central Hardin makes a great showing and continues to improve. I just disagree that someone who progresses further into the playoffs thanks to an easy path is automatically better than those who didn't make it that far on a harder path.

Yup. I've pointed that out before in a variety of sports.

Go on the volleyball board and check out the discussion about the state draw. Some public school will make it to the final (and at least two in the semis) because all of the private schools (and the nationally ranked teams that come with them) somehow, someway drew into the same side of the bracket.

I'm NOT from Louisville, but I'm NOT about to be foolish enough and say the public school which gets killed in the final is better than 2/3 of Mercy/SHA/Assumption (1 of the three will be eliminated before state, a second will be gone by the end of round 2) SIMPLY because it lasted longer in the postseason.

That is horrible logic to use.

I'm not a UK basketball fan by any means, but I also know the once-beaten Cats (who played a heck of an out-of-conference schedule) were better than No. 3 in the country last year (even though the NCAA Tourney didn't show it).

And in my area, Bethlehem is enjoying its postseason girls' soccer run, but the Banshees know they're not top-eight (or even realistically in the top 20). Maher certainly doesn't think Bethlehem's elite, but they're still around.

I agree with EVERYTHING you said that I bolded. I'm not 180 degrees away in this discussion.

CH is not a cellar dweller. Not even close. I apologize if I make them out that way. They've cemented themselves as a team that should be hosting playoff games every year (maybe 2 or 3 per year).

They're not middle of the pack. They've broken out from that.

They're on the cusp of the top-10 this year and were definitely top-10 last year (although I do not ever believe they were really No. 2 last year, but the AP said they were. They were more in the 4-9 range, IMO).

Central Hardin is not Male-T-X (although it would be great to be in that conversation).

But it's not top five, either and knocking on the door. It's not in the same neighborhood or driveway yet, let alone the door.

Not sure it's top 10. It would be nice if CH was top 10, but what makes Central Hardin better than SK, Cooper, Ryle, PRP (which obliterated John), Manual, Lafayette, Station, etc.? Sure CH has some nice losses, but so do Manual and PRP (and PRP thumped a team that CH considers among its highlight wins of the season).

Believe it or not, Central Hardin has more in common with Manual (which some CH folks don't want to give credit to since they never make it far in the playoffs thanks to being stuck with Male and the Big Green Monsters) and PRP (made it to the final a few years ago) than it wants to believe.

Don't think CH really considers beating Meade this year as a highlight win of the season other than it is Meade in the name. These kids know football and understand that they needed to beat Meade but don't think for a minute that that is their highlight. You keep referring to their down district as if they scheduled it. They play who KHSAA gave them and Coach beefed up the schedule around it to make them better.

CH is no where close to the peak, I think everyone understands that. But it certainly is nice to know that someone isn't trying to schedule a 6A team for their homecoming anymore!!

Just step back and read most of your posts that involve CH and you will see the bias against the Bruins that is referred to.

So I guess we should always put an asterisk by Champions name saying, ah but they aren't the best. Transitive properties NEVER work in sports, that's why you play the game and not look at paper.

I was referring to beating Meade LAST year (in the 10-0 season). That was the highlight (when Central Hardin turned around and lost to that same Meade team at home).

Beating Meade this year? Not the highlight. But the highlight for this year is John (who PRP trounced), North (to win its first back-to-back district crowns; but E'town and Caldwell beat North, too) or Tilghman (which got beat by Caldwell). Not much to lean your hat on.

I'm not being biased, I'm backing it up with stats/history (unless, you know, you think stats and history are biased even though I had nothing to do with them).

You do realize there's a HUGE difference in how you finish in one particular tournament and how you're judged/rated on the year as a WHOLE, right?

Judged is a personal opinion. How you are listed in history book is not.

Don't think I ever said what the highlight was, you did. I don't think there was a highlight game. Highlight moment, back to back district titles! Say the district is down, I know you will. But they still had to win. Nice chatting with you! Good luck to the school you root for, wichever that maybe. Go Bruins!

cols the reason people started getting on him wasn't that hes a superfan and wants central to win some playoff games. Its that he declared them top 5 in 6a and can't find any logical way to defend himself.
i agree with you too. They are not top 5. If Henderson makes it to them they will beat Henderson but it won't be like any of the other top ranked teams beat them. And that will be the cols 7th best team they have played all year.

wow, so four teams that have been in top 3 in their class in the AP poll don't have a chance to win a state title. So why play the games lets just go to the computer poll and see who is number one. You forgot Owensboro who my bad they don't get a shot because number 1 bg is in same bracket doesn't matter that they are number 2 in the state and just got beat by 3 nope no shot for the red devils. I said could be state champions and I can put up numbers for all four.

latest AP poll Owensboro 2, Caldwell 3, Gibson southern 1, Reitz 2 who was number 1 until last game of season got beat by 1 pt to number 1 in 2-a. And Chatard was number 6.

So I guess we should always put an asterisk by Champions name saying, ah but they aren't the best. Transitive properties NEVER work in sports, that's why you play the game and not look at paper.

I don't follow basketball, but I will repeat my earlier question: When has a team that isn't the best in 6A won the state title? There are plenty of occasions where the second-best team wasn't in the finals, but when has the best team that year not won the title?

Who, in 6a, outside of St X, Male and Trinity deserve to be at the so-called, big boy table. Manual has lost to each of these teams every time they've played and, imo, just because they play them each year, doesn't get them there. If anything, they should have a better chance, because they play the Big 3 more times than anyone else. Let's face it, NKy, Lex area, W.Ky in 6a doesn't fare well against the Big 3.. In saying that, if you throw out the Big 3, the rest of Louisville is very average in 6a.. Eastern, J'Town, Seneca, Ballard, Butler, PRP, Manual are nothing to write home about.. 1/3 of all the states 6a teams are in Louisville, so, chances are, they're going to have some of the better teams, as they should, especially the 2 privates.. C.Hardin would have to get through Henderson, Daviess and McCracken, which all could compete with the 7 teams not names X, T, H.. Hendo and Davoess would be no worse than 3-3 against the 6 Louisville schools and McCracken would be no worse than 5-1, possibly 6-0.. I think they and Manual would be a tossup.. And, yes, I'm aware Manual beat McCracken last year in a game that was a tale of 2 halves, dominated by McCracken in the 1st half and dominated by Manual in the 2nd half..

Central Hardin is much better than they were 10 years ago and are making steps in the right direction to keep improving. 1)Beat Meade last year 2)beat John Hardin 3)beat Meade and John both this year their home fields. Its all steps in the right direction. I hope my enthusiasm for Central Hardin is not perceived as dillusional. They are not Male, Trinity or X but they are alot better than they were. Lets congratulate what they are instead of always pointing out what they aren't.

I agree 100 PERCENT with your first two bolded parts. ... It's the last part I take issue with (but not your fault).

Central Hardin fans should be content/happy/thrilled with where they are (especially based on where they came from). The Lawson-Perry-Mattingly coaching group has righted the ship (and should be commended).

But to say they're top five? That's taking fandom straight out of Reality Town on a one-way trip to Delusional Ville.

I didn't start pointing out Central Hardin's fallacies until its own fans (or at least people who claimed to support Central Hardin) decided the Bruins were on perches and branches they hadn't flown/climbed to yet. They just placed them there and dared anybody to question them (and called you biased and a hater if you did).

I said it once and I'll say it again: Central Hardin should -- and I expect them to -- cruise in their next three games (Woodford, Ohio, Henderson/Meade). That leaves McCracken for a bid in the final four. Obviously Central Hardin knows what it takes to win at McCracken (been there, done that). Win that -- the polls say otherwise, but it's NOT like McCracken is miles and miles ahead of Central Hardin -- and it's gravy/icing for making to the semis (where Goliath awaits).

That's a FABULOUS season for Central Hardin (not the best winning percentage -- which would be last year -- but easily longest postseason run in the 20-plus-year history). I'm not going to fault the Bruins for that at all. That's a season many would be proud of (and would gladly trade based on what they're going through).

So own that.

That being said, it doesn't move the needle for Central Hardin (or any other area team for that matter) as a heavyweight or a "top five" team. And while I have NOT seen a player or coach claim the Bruins as such, it's NOT helping to have parents/disenchanted fans throw that on the Bruins (and give people extra incentive to think they're a team with undue/unearned hype).

Let the chips fall where they may and enjoy the ride.

And if you prove people wrong in the process? HUGE BONUS.

I'll eat crow. I won't shy away.

Using the CalPreps computer rankings:

calpreps.com

07-DuPont Manual: beats 11-McCracken, beats 20-Henderson, beats 22-Daviess

12-PRP: beats 20-Henderson, beats 22-Daviess, loses to 11-McCracken

18-Ballard: beats 20-Henderson, beats 22-Daviess, loses to 11-McCracken

23-Eastern: loses to 11-McCracken, loses to 20-Henderson, loses to 22-Daviess

24-Butler: loses to 11-McCracken, loses to 20-Henderson, loses to 22-Daviess

31-Jeffersontown: loses to 11-McCracken, loses to 20-Henderson, loses to 22-Daviess

32-Seneca: loses to 11-McCracken, loses to 20-Henderson, loses to 22-Daviess

You're not too far off in your assessment, but lumping in Seneca and J'town in with the other Louisville teams is convenient, especially since most Louisville teams would have little trouble with Ohio annd Muhlenberg from the west.

FWIW: Manual beat Male in 2012 and 2013 (and Central Hardin and McCracken both lost the last time they played Manual, so forget the big 3).

And I'm not buying the McCracken hype, either. Yes, they beat Mayfield.

But they also got beat by Tilghman (who Central Hardin ran over and thru. Repeated. Then ran over and thru them again. And again. And again).
