Wow, didnt know I would start such a fire storm with a simple comment about Central Hardin being ranked top 5. Central Hardin was ranked # 2 last season based on their 10-0 record, but wont be top 10 at the end of this season because of their win-loss record ( 7-3). Even though they lost to the top team in 3A,4A,and 5A. I wouldnt say that last years team was any better than the current version of Central Hardin.

So, in the end, KY high school rankings come down to a teams win/ loss record.

Shrug. I'm not angry; I just disagree.

When was Central Hardin considered #2 in 6A last year? That seems unlikely even with an undefeated regular season. Also, Trinity was still in the top five last year even with a 5-5 record and this year Trinity/Scott County are ranked above SK even though SK is undefeated so I doubt the win-loss record decides the rankings.

Transitive properties don't work in sports! No offense, but I see some disdain in your posts toward CH. Any reason for that?

I think Central Hardin is a good rising program which has had a solid run (especially the last two years).

However, they've had some coincidental luck along the way. Last year, paired with Lexington. This year, with WKY. Avoided Male-Manual-T-X both years til the state semis.

It's the same reason why E'town's expected to do well. Lot easier with Caldwell and Paducah Tilghman in your path than being in the same district as Louisville Central (and knowing you're likely never going to host more than one playoff game).

You must have forgotten the days of when the Hardins-Meade were paired with Louisville in the playoffs every season. Didn't exactly go well for the home team, if you catch my drift.

And Central Hardin is still looking for that elite win. Maybe at McCracken in 13 (although McCracken got beat at home by Manual in the playoffs last year) or Meade regular season last year (albeit Meade owned Central Hardin in the rematch -- i.e. the game that mattered).

Boyle would have been a great win, but Central Hardin let that one slip away (and we listened in the weeks leading up to the game that Central would win because Central thumped Boyle in 7-on-7).

Who was the last 6-A elite program Central Hardin has beaten? Meade had a good little run, but it's not year-in, year-out among the best. McCracken is building, but unlike its softball team (already a state title threat, McCracken football is still getting there).

The point I was making is that Central Hardin has done NOTHING that PRP or Manual (or Cooper or Ryle or one of the Lexington schools) haven't done in the big scheme of things, yet some folks think Manual, PRP, the northern KY schools, Lexington publics should be kicked to the curb because Central Hardin went further in the playoffs (while ignoring Central Hardin rarely had to beat ANYBODY of consequence to get there).

What, really, has Central Hardin done that should leapfrog it past Manual, PRP (which obliterated John Hardin and Meade), the NKY schools, etc?

I'm willing to listen, but no one has yet to offer any data or facts supporting the Bruins' case.

Yet if you point out their flaws, you're labeled as a hater.

In our area, there is NOT an elite team. E'town has a good ranking -- by darn near everyone -- but has a favorable schedule and an easier playoff path than usual thanks to not having to deal with Louisville Central (or even EKY like that year as EKY 3-A is a pretty stout district overall compared to the one E'town plays in).

And we'll have to wait-and-see on E'town.

Don't know if they get past Tilghman or Caldwell (or match up with Boyle or Louisville Central or LexCath or whoever in the semis).

And can E'town keep it up next year losing Wilson, Cecil, Sullivan, Payne, Walls, etc.?

With Central Hardin, it feels some fans believe the Bruins have arrived at the big boy table: They haven't.

Fort Knox (in the distant past), Meade and John have gotten there, but couldn't keep their seats.

Central Hardin hasn't done anything that Knox, Meade and John haven't already done (and no one is talking about those programs being elite).

John maybe, if they make another run (because they weren't supposed to last year and did; but WERE expected to this year and have struggled at times).

Central getting to the state semis would be nice, but it's also kind of expected (if they beat McCracken). That would be the furthest the program has ever gotten (although I'd take 2014 Meade over 2015 McCracken), but will probably result in a semifinal slaughter (when the Louisville semifinalist had much tougher games to get there ... the semis should be difficult, not easy).

Happened to Meade last year. Good run, crushed in semis. No one talked about Meade being a top-four team last year, but Meade was one of the final four teams left.

Check out Central Hardin's playoff losses: Manual (in the first round after opening 4-1), PRP, Meade (twice; once after having beaten Meade in the regular season), Scott County (in the second round when Central Hardin opened 8-0), Henderson (in a year CH started 6-0 and moved into the top 10). Not exactly being on the cusp but having to go through the Big 3.

Last time Central Hardin faced "big four" Manual, it lost.

So again I ask, what has Central Hardin done to show it's a top-five (or even top-10) team?

Historically (in the past) or in the present (this season, with good losses but no elite wins), the numbers/stats/data are NOT in Central Hardin's favor, no matter how CH fans try to spin it.

Central Hardin maybe should take the stance of the Republicans last night: It's the media's fault, not ours.

Shrug. I'm not angry; I just disagree.

CH shot up to No. 2 in the AP poll last year, IIRC.

Its called being a football fanatic and enjoying success in a school that your kids attend, nothing more, nothing less. Having a chance to play the big 3 in a state semifinal would mean 1 more week to cheer on your team.

At the end of the regular season in the poll that the majority of us feel is inferior in every way to the BGP poll. At the actual end of last season they were #2 in a game against Meade.

I agree with Hardin preps it's about gettin another week to play for the seniors and cheer them on. Henderson has played the toughest schedule they have seen in a long time. After Owensboro 6 ranked teams and 4 of them could win a state title. Henderson is 4-5 and it would be a successful season if they play Owensboro close and knock of Meade county by 1 and then give Central Hardin a run for their money.

cols the reason people started getting on him wasn't that hes a superfan and wants central to win some playoff games. Its that he declared them top 5 in 6a and can't find any logical way to defend himself.

You DON'T think Central Hardin's 2014 schedule (10-0) was cupcake compared to this year (about to be 7-3)?

Some people insist this Central Hardin team is better than last year's, but obviously playing BG, South Warren and Boyle is different than Mercer (2-8 in regular season last year), Greenwood (4-6 in regular season last year) and Indy Marshall.

Throw in Muhlenberg, North Hardin and Bullitt East (which a 6-A program SHOULD beat) in addition to a John Hardin team which people knew was going to have growing pains (and they did, they finished 7-7) and Central Hardin was expected/destined to have a great season last year.

But a favorable schedule -- just like E'town had this year -- made that happen. It's not like Central Hardin was going 10-0 regardless of who was in their path.

Remember, Central Hardin was winless in regulation TWICE against Meade County (won in OT, got beat by 22 in rematch) ... and Meade got running clocked the next game.

Central Hardin does need a big defining win to ever get respect as an elite program. Tim Mattingly did beef their schedule up this year. You wanna be elite you have to play elite. I'm not sure about you but I do go and support them each chance I get and back and support however I can. I too think you have a deep rooted problem with Central Hardin as any attempt for someone to say anything positive about them you jump all over. GO BRUINS!!!!

I agree with Hardin preps it's about gettin another week to play for the seniors and cheer them on. Henderson has played the toughest schedule they have seen in a long time. Four teams with the possibility of a state championship -- albeit in theory, EVERY team in the playoffs has a possibility -- but I'm not seeing four different teams on Henderson's schedule hoisting state title trophies (unless you're counting all three Indiana teams).

According to Cal Preps,

- Gibson Southern (3-A, 10-0) is 22nd overall in Indiana and ranked second behind 7-3 Chatard, whose schedule is 10 times harder than Gibson's

- Reitz Memorial (3-A, 2-8) is 166th overall in Indiana. Not winning a state title, at least if it has to go throw Gibson

- F.J. Reitz (4-A, 9-1) is 37th overall in Indiana and third in 4-A. I'll give them a shot.

- Ohio, Muhlenberg, Meade, McCracken, Daviess are longshots at winning a 6-A state title. And if one of them gets there, that means the other 4 didn't.

- Christian County could win a state title, but would have to go through Owensboro (or vice versa). So that eliminates 1 of those 2 teams.

- Caldwell could/should make it to the semis, but is an underdog according to most everyone if LexCath, Boyle or Central is the opponent.

Not only do I doubt there are four potential state champs on Henderson's schedule, I doubt four are in the finals (even if they went 0-4, at least they got there).

Only one team on Henderson's schedule (Gibson) is favored to get to the finals (and I'm not sure if Chatard is in the same bracket).

But four? OK.

Lots of optimism in Hardin and Henderson counties, apparently.

Realism? Not so much.

So if you notice, I took the liberty to edit your previous post as I quoted it to show you how that is all you do is point out CH flaws!! When I refer to CH as maybe being a top 5 team that is in order of finish this year if things work out not based on history!

As a grad of CH, you seem to have a lot of vitriol toward the program in everything you post on here that has to do with football. That is strictly my opinion. I understand that you post records and facts but there is a little sense of "Ha, see they aren't good " in the way it is presented.

There was only one way to go for CH from their inception and now that they are used to winning it is time to try to take that next step in being consistent and to be amid the talk of maybe a title or at least in conversations. Not saying they are there yet! Being a 6A school in this area is tough but it also is good for players to try to showcase their talents at the highest level of football in the state.

So, is CH on the same level as X, T, Manual, Male? No

Are they where Scott Co and Meade have been recently? No

Are they down with Muhlenberg Co? No

Are they middle of pack? No

Top of the middle of the pack? I think Yes

Central Hardin does need a big defining win to ever get respect as an elite program. Tim Mattingly did beef their schedule up this year. You wanna be elite you have to play elite. I'm not sure about you but I do go and support them each chance I get and back and support however I can. It would be absolutely awesome for Central Hardin to stun Male/Trinity in the state semis and make it to the finals. I'll eat plenty of crow.

But beating the likes of McCracken, Meade (where Central Hardin's tale ended the last two season) and North Hardin doesn't make you elite or top five.

Central Hardin's a quality, stout team. But NOT elite.

There're nothing wrong with that. Caldwell, Elizabethtown and Paducah Tilghman face the same doubts when it comes to Boyle, LexCath and Louisville Central being in their way.

Heck, Simon Kenton has achieved more than Central Hardin is recent years and the Pioneers are still fighting for their piece of the pie (like Central Hardin is).

One of the WORST things Central Hardin can do is believe it has reached the pinnacle, the peak, the top. It's not there. And frankly, not even close (although it can at least see it now, which was NOT a possibility 10, 20 years ago).

Central Hardin has made progress. Boatloads of it. And I'm glad the parents, fans and coaches want more. Central needs more.

In order to be the man, you have to beat the man. Central has NEVER beaten the man.

Meade's not the man (although CH FINALLY won back to back district titles in a district which isn't that great compared to Louisville or Lexington).

McCracken's not the man (even though fourth-seeded Manual won AT top-seeded McCracken the year after CH's breakthrough win at McCracken).

I'm not being a hater, per se. Central Hardin will smoke Woodford (running clock) and Ohio (running clock). Should cruise past Henderson (maybe not running clock though; if Central's playing Meade, Henderson's weaker than I thought and weaker than WKY fans want to admit).

Then lies McCracken. I feel CH wins that game (although some rankings suggest otherwise).

Then comes you know who. Shock them and you "shock the world". Play close and you gain respect. CH can lose that game and still come out looking good (like it did against Boyle, for example). I think CH gained respect against Boyle (one for playing them, two for nearly beating them). Winning against Boyle would have been huge (although JH beat Boyle a few seasons ago in what was supposed to be the Bulldogs' most daunting schedule ever).

Get blasted in the state semis and it reverts to "I told you so" coming from multiple directions (and not just me). Louisville fans last year said Meade didn't stack up. And we saw what happened (even though Meade had a good season).

So enjoy the ride while it lasts (even if it has a bumpy landing), because I'd EASILY take the past three years (including this one) of Central Hardin football over the previous 20 (probably more).

The Bruins are no longer in hibernation, and that's a GOOD thing.

But the bear still needs to show it can go hunting and be a killer (we'll wait and see) instead of feasting on berries and bunnies.

CH shot up to No. 2 in the AP poll last year, IIRC.

Central was # 2 at the end of last season

Oh, so only in the AP poll? That doesn't surprise me, as they tend to vote only by record and without considering who the team has played. Given how the playoffs turned out that should be proof enough that the AP poll was wrong.

Its called being a football fanatic and enjoying success in a school that your kids attend, nothing more, nothing less. Having a chance to play the big 3 in a state semifinal would mean 1 more week to cheer on your team.

I'm not arguing with that. I hope Central Hardin makes a great showing and continues to improve. I just disagree that someone who progresses further into the playoffs thanks to an easy path is automatically better than those who didn't make it that far on a harder path.

So if you notice, I took the liberty to edit your previous post as I quoted it to show you how that is all you do is point out CH flaws!! When I refer to CH as maybe being a top 5 team that is in order of finish this year if things work out not based on history!

I agree with EVERYTHING you said that I bolded. I'm not 180 degrees away in this discussion.

CH is not a cellar dweller. Not even close. I apologize if I make them out that way. They've cemented themselves as a team that should be hosting playoff games every year (maybe 2 or 3 per year).

They're not middle of the pack. They've broken out from that.

They're on the cusp of the top-10 this year and were definitely top-10 last year (although I do not ever believe they were really No. 2 last year, but the AP said they were. They were more in the 4-9 range, IMO).

Central Hardin is not Male-T-X (although it would be great to be in that conversation).

But it's not top five, either and knocking on the door. It's not in the same neighborhood or driveway yet, let alone the door.

Not sure it's top 10. It would be nice if CH was top 10, but what makes Central Hardin better than SK, Cooper, Ryle, PRP (which obliterated John), Manual, Lafayette, Station, etc.? Sure CH has some nice losses, but so do Manual and PRP (and PRP thumped a team that CH considers among its highlight wins of the season).

Believe it or not, Central Hardin has more in common with Manual (which some CH folks don't want to give credit to since they never make it far in the playoffs thanks to being stuck with Male and the Big Green Monsters) and PRP (made it to the final a few years ago) than it wants to believe.
