Congrats birds fun game to watch

54 for Highlands is a hoss.

 

I am only a casual football fan. I have played and coached basketball and baseball so I feel like I know a lot more about those two sports than football. However, it looked like the adjustment HHS made in the second half was moving 54 to nose guard. They lined him up over the center (instead of #5, who fights like crazy but weighs about 160). 54 created havoc and I thought was the difference in the second half. Is that what some of the others on here - coaches - think??

 

That kid has quite a motor. He gets double or sometimes triple teamed every play and he just keeps coming...and coming...and coming...

Defense for the Birds plays well when they get penetration. Robinson had a fantastic day at DT. Hebel was pancaking guys on the O Line. Hergott led them on the key drive to go ahead. I think he gained some confidence today. The rollout pass only works when it's a throw to the sticks. He throws a nice ball. He made a couple nice runs today as well.

 

Mayer is going to be fine. He has great composure and throws a nice spiral. He threw the one pick to ice the game right at Bowden. The earlier INT went off the hands of the receiver. I don't think it was totally his fault. The BALL Was catchable, Bird defender just sat back and waited on it. Only a soph I expect him to be one of the best over the next 2 yrs.

 

Should be a fun rematch in the Fort later in the playoffs.

Congrats to HHS. Great game.

 

This sets up another chapter in the book of this great rivalry in Nov. It's going to be a cold one.

 

Offensive problems continue for the Colonels. Questionable play calls throughout the game. I do know that the Oline was missing some key players especially with #71 Ziegelmeyer out.

#5 Mayer has to become a smarter more consistent player. Great athlete but makes too many bad decisions. Gotta be able to finish that game esp. with defense playing great. #35 Pitzer and #4 Best with some huge plays for the Colonels. Holding and dumb penalties along with fumbles and interceptions also killed some Colonel momentum.

 

Defense for the Colonels played sound football. No big plays all day. Few holes here and there, other than that they forced key turnover on downs and missed field goals. And did their job and gave ball back to O. Believe #82 Butler,#35 Pitzer, and #33 Shelton combined for over 40 Tackles. #43 Maile had nice sack (s).

 

Price of admission was well worth it. Back and forth game. Go Colonels!

Who will Highlands and CovCath have to play in the postseason in order to get to a rematch?

Listened to the game on my drive. Congrats HHS. Cov Cath is snake bit when it comes to HHS.

 

Hope this doesn't run some the wrong way, but wow was that game just dreadful. Is CCH really that bad and what does that say about Beechwood?

I'm not sure, but the CCH annual pilgrimage to Johnson Central is no longer.

What is this "rematch" stuff?

 

I didn't see a team today on either side guaranteed of getting a rematch with the other.

 

I'd say both Ds played well but that may be more about the inability of the opponent's offense. Neither specials teams played well. Obviously, neither offense played well.

 

I saw two non-explosive teams today that needed mistakes from the other to have a chance to win.

A few thoughts from me. First time I have seen CovCath live and 2nd times to see the Birds this year. No dog in the fight but was really focused in on watching the Colonels.

 

CovCath D line and LB's aren't to bad need to create more pressure for sure but not to bad. The DBs are not good at all. To beat CovCath just throw it all day.

I thought it was smart for CovCath to move 90 to D tackle in the second half. He really helped in the middle.

The Colonels production with the ball on 1st down was down right AWFUL. I bet the averaged maybe 1 yard for the game on first down. That really makes play calling for second down tough, and cost them the game in the long run.

Team speed seems a little slow and overall toughness and aggression is lacking.

 

 

This is the worst HHS team I can remember in recent times. They had the two big int's to win and made those plays. Congrats on the victory. The HHS "swagger" is completely gone. There is no fear when they walk on the field anymore and just seem like a regular decent football team.

Congratulations Highlands and its fan base. You should be very proud of those kids today - they played turnover free football and found a way to beat their rival on the road. Not an aesthetically pleasing game, but fun to watch two storied rivals compete. It's why I love high school sports.

They don't seem to utilize Angel's athletic ability either. It looks like he is only in about 20% of offensive plays.

Both teams will have early playoff exits. It was a tough game to watch.
