I was a Raceland player. A three year starter. A four letter Letterman (when you had to actually play to letter). We rarely lost a game. Beat Ashland for the first time in school history. Won several District Championships. Beat a massive Pikeville team with D1 players that had won three State Championships. Beat every team in the area. And, I was an average football player. Almost all the players I ever played with were average football players.

 

I was an average football player, but I am a Raceland Ram.

 

If anyone wants to tear the Rams down to feel better about themselves, so be it, but quite honestly, we don't care what others have to say. Celebrate the times you beat us, because there will be those days that you don't.

 

If after 500 wins, 18 District Championships, 2 Regional Championships and 2 Semi-Final appearances, you don't respect the team Raceland puts on the field then you never will. And, that's ok, we have the respect of the people that matter, just like we respect the people that matter.

Have I ever mentioned west going to bowling green? I know what the comets are. Have never made any bold predictions about the comets. Did u just call most of your ram players in the history of your program below average and average football players? Ouch.

Yes sir, we do make comments about our team going to Bowling Green. It hasn't happened yet, but the past 2 seasons we were one game away from being there.

 

Bet that Bowling Green trip never comes up much at the dinner table in Olive Hill, so you have to get on here and take your shots at the little 1A school that has been headed in that direction, the same school that squeaked out the W against your Comets, but will light Olive Hill up like it's the 4th of July when it visits next season. You must not have much to talk about on WC threads or I guess WC football is no where near as exciting as Raceland football so you have to get on a Raceland thread and squabble around.

What I really hate about situations like this, over the years the Raceland fans on BGP have defended the team from West Carter and cheered for them on BGP because they had no, or very few, fans on here to sing their praises. For their trouble, the Ram Fans have to now be subjected to ridicule from fans of that team they cheered for.

 

Like they say, no good deed goes unpunished.

Stat tracker, in the last 5 years Raceland has won over 50 football games, won 2 district championships and 2 regional titles. West Carter has managed around 20 wins in that same amount of time, making it no further than the 2nd round of the playoffs each year. Guys are making comments about "Our high expectations", your darn right we have high expectations, thats what good PROGRAMS, do. Raceland isnt a flash in the frying pan. We have been building a tradition since the first Rambler laced up a cleat in a horse field or cow pasture. We came from nothing, no homefield, NOTHING, but we are sure as hell, far from nothing, these days.

 

Programs arent built by a few good seasons. Programs are built over years and years. And in regaurds to calling for Salmon's head? Raceland is kind of like the Pittsburg Steelers of HS football. We dont get rid of a coach because he had a less than expected year.

You know, we let it go for quite a few weeks, but now the cross hairs are fixed. Bring it on. Many have come and gone, many have criticized and left, but the Ram Fans are still here.

Theoretically speaking, they have a chance of making a one seed if they win Friday night. Just putting that out there. Also, Raceland graduates 9-15 every year and yet they still win. Note for anyone that is curious: Raceland has only had four losing seasons in the history of the program. Rams find a way to win.

The early years when they only played two, three or four games, some of which they didn't have an actual coach, I don't think those are commonly counted. I'm not sure on the number of actual losing season. But, it's safe to say it's not many in the last thirty years.

It's hard to tell how accurate the records are from 70-80 years ago. Regardless of whether it's true or not, Raceland has been a model of consistency over the decades.

Thanks for the compliment. I'm not sure about the accuracy either and to be honest, I think in the 20's and 30's some of those teams were "community teams" and may not have actually been associated with the school. Back then, Raceland had a team, Worthington had a team, Russell had a team and Flatwoods had a team. Then those teams became associated with the schools. And, I don't know what year they actually became part of the school. It would take someone older then me to answer that question.
