October 3, 201511 yr Loved it. Great adaptation by Ridley Scott. Took Mrs. Blutarsky to see it last night. She is NOT science/geek oriented, but she really liked it. Just like the book, it's captivating, funny, moving & believable. As a fan of the book I could only find one thing to really quibble about at the end, but it's hardly worth mentioning.
October 3, 201511 yr We went to see it also, daughter who thought it would be boring... Loved it. I'm not familiar with the book, so with no reference to the book togo on I loved it too. There were several times whet this movie could have went off the tracks with another outrageous obstacle put in the way, but they refrained. In my opinion that made the movie better and kept me engaged.
October 3, 201511 yr Author There were several times whet this movie could have went off the tracks with another outrageous obstacle put in the way, but they refrained. In my opinion that made the movie better and kept me engaged. Ridley Scott succumbed to the temptation once at the end, when Watney DID try the "Iron Man" maneuver. That was not in the book, the tether was able to reach Watney's capsule. That is the one thing I wish they wouldn't have added. But in the big scheme of things, I won't complain too much.
October 5, 201511 yr Man we've spent many lives, time and money saving Matt Damon. LOL I was just going to post that, as I saw a FB post about that, I wouldn't have been able to post the photo due to language. "Saving Private Ryan, Interstellar, The Martian: America has spend so much money retrieving Matt Damon".
October 6, 201511 yr Going to try to see this movie this weekend. I don't go to movies much anymore but this one sounds like a good one.
October 6, 201511 yr Going to see this tonight. Excited! Update: it was very good. Really enjoyed it.
October 10, 201511 yr Just got back from seeing this. For a 142 minute movie, the time flew by. Very good movie! Several times I found myself tensed up and holding my breath. (On a side note, since we were childless, we opted to try the Premier seating (at the Florence Rave Cinemas). Heck, for the additional $5 per seat, we each got a small popcorn...which, by itself is normally over $5. Wife ended up getting a cheese quesadilla, which she said was okay. I ended up enjoying a glass of Fat Tire while we waited for the movie to start. Add in the wider seats, and heck, I'll probably fork up the extra cash each time I can for that.)
October 10, 201511 yr Just got back from watching it and went away very impressed. One of Damon's better acting jobs in a while IMO.
October 12, 201511 yr Saw the movie Saturday night in 2D. Definitely a thumbs up. Also...went to Regal cinema in Lexington....reclining theatre seats!! However, their popcorn was lacking necessary butter as I wasn't completely nauseous after eating it.
July 18, 201610 yr I just got around to seeing this last night. Really enjoyed it. I really appreciated Matt Damon's sense of humor throughout.
