It's embarrassing that adults are whining over one dollar. If you don't like it, don't go in! If a school doesn't charge for their students to get in, should the visiting students get in for free too?

 

As Lipton and Clyde mentioned, try going to a basketball game at Elder or Moeller, you will be in the upper level.

 

The game I went to it was $6, heck, it could have been $8, I still would have paid.

Gotta admit that I've never heard of this practice at any level, amateur or professional.

You are correct about the pre-game "music" being offensive. Volume more so than lyrics.

This isnt something new, HC used to do the same thing at the middle school games when the hosted at the JV field at rosedale, back when they had a ms team.
