WAIT! Beechwood band showed up at a game?

Yes, 15 yard penalties every time they do it......if the officials want to enforce it.

This is still going? Wow. As zero stated its first a surprise they showed up. Couple years ago BW decided to rekindle the HC parade, which takes my back to my youth watching the players and band walk past my house. Loved it. Was a Thursday night. What's the best part of a parade? The band, right? Except wait a second, they were givin the night off to rest, had a competition Saturday. Wait, what? Yep, true story. Who was there? Every single player, who happened to have a game the next night. Last year was a little better, a few showed. Hard to believe, especially since that's the one time people pay attention.

As for the people complaining, Puleez. Fans can scream at a kid at the free throw line in hoops. Kids in the dugout scream and bang on buckets inthe pitchers windup, which BTW Cov Cath and their classless head coach are unparalleled when it comes to this act in the entire NKy area. And they complain about a band during a football game? Just stop.

I quit buying 100.00's of dollars of mulch a year from them when they quit supporting the football team. What is Friday night football without a High School Band? Kinda goes hand and hand to me.

Looking at the score, I guess they didn't play loud enough.

Can you provide some documentation for that? I cant find anything?

Who knows, maybe the Beechwood band helped CCH get used to more noise in future games, in sure a game at Highlands with the stands ON one side of the field and the school ON the other side that it's gets a lot worse. Don't some schools, colleges and pro teams pump in noise at some practices to get used to noise.

The hate for the band, be it from CCH or BW people is childish. As a non band person, the band does a great job! He crazies do a great job too as always, BUT hey, their guys on the field were leading cheers during play and isn't that mentioned in the rule book? The band and the crazies did a good job. Stop being childish.

No it isn't, and yes, the band playing during live ball action is a rule...I know you like rules and all, so...

I see where the KHSAA talks about it. I don't see how it is enforced.

Isn't it unsportsmanlike conduct?

For those who are upset, have any of you contacted the principal or AD at Beechwood? Seems to me if you think it is as serious a problem as you contend here, you'd have been on the phone first thing this am.

I have confirmed that there is not a national rule on this.

Each state puts in their own rules.

In Georgia, a team gets one warning and then they go to unsportsmanlike.

In Tennessee, it's handled by the game management but no penalty on the field.

This is straight from the "Football Playing Rules" (pg. 24) of the KHSAA Handbook. Same playing rules are in place all season, including at WKU for the Championship:

J) Band or other school Provided Music During Live Ball

1) The band is not to play or cheers be given when the ball is alive

by rule.

2) Persons subject to the rules, including bands, shall not create

any noise that prohibits a team from hearing its signals. Drums,

cymbals, bells and mechanical noisemakers shall not be used to

assist cheering.

So basically, the way I read it, as long as the team can hear the signals, its all good.

Now...my $0.02: it's part of the game. Much like in college, if you can't hear the signals or plays you can appeal to the ref (in college, the quarterback goes to the white hat, and POLITELY asks him to nix the noise. It's up to the white hat to honor it or not), but ultimately it's up to the official to determine if it's a problem or not.

Every rulebook has a rule and then an enforcement of penalty. What is the enforcement? Who enforces it?
