Nobody pays attention to them except their parents. Doubt they were even noticed outside of half time

And this guy who led to this thread being started, and he's really mad.

Have I drifted into another soccer thread?

I was a sports guy in high school, not a band guy in the least. However, I enjoy what the Beechwood band turns out at the halftime shows. I do not have kids in the band but I do pay attention when the band appears at the 2-3 games a year. Other Beechwood non-band parent fans do the same. And the competitions the band plays in involve many bands the same size as BW, some larger. And it is more than state championships. A couple of years ago they took the national title in Indianapolis. The band members put in just as many practice hours, if not more, than many other sports, including football. I heard many people around me last night make the comment, "This game sucks, at least we get to see the band at halftime." Now, I am not condoning the grossly out of tune music played during the time CCH was trying to run plays but seriously, how many of you that have played in front of huge crowds before really hear what is going on outside the playing field? The chatter and talk across the line of scrimmage drowns out anything else. If you are focusing on what is happening in the crowd then you are not focusing on the game in front of you. Like many others said before me, it did not affect the CCH players on the field at all just the fans in the stands. The Colonels came to play last night and deserve many kudos. Beechwood had very few answers for the CCH game plan. I mention this because I did not want to end my post on a sour note. Pun intended.

Some things never change, back in the 80s when I played for Beechwood we only practiced on the football field once a week because the natural grass surface couldn't take the pounding. The band seemed to be on the field every day and with their repetitive routines they completely wore the grass out in some areas of the field. It was apparent to me then that the band definitely outranked the football team. Just sayin.

Where did you practice the rest of the week? Don't tell me you practiced on the baseball field !

This thread hahaha

Almost reminds me of the member who posted that he was upset the Cooper band left after halftime (they get the third quarter off). He wasn't even a Cooper fan

Of course. And it wasn't as nice then as it is today.

Although I never played football, there is noise going on around you in just about every sport, so I Agree 100%

On a side "note" (pun intended), not a fan of any band.....not my cup of tea. However, can appreciate their hard work and talents.

Wow, talk about mountain out of a mole hill. It truly wasn't that bad.

Have I drifted into another soccer thread?

Only you and I know that that is funny bc it is true.

Who knows, maybe the Beechwood band helped CCH get used to more noise in future games, in sure a game at Highlands with the stands ON one side of the field and the school ON the other side that it's gets a lot worse. Don't some schools, colleges and pro teams pump in noise at some practices to get used to noise.

The hate for the band, be it from CCH or BW people is childish. As a non band person, the band does a great job! He crazies do a great job too as always, BUT hey, their guys on the field were leading cheers during play and isn't that mentioned in the rule book? The band and the crazies did a good job. Stop being childish.

Ha! And their may be a reason for it. Hey CWB remember? Lol

Only you and I know that that is funny bc it is true.

If this was a soccer thread, the soccer moms would be calling the school to complain about the posters.

There is room for a great football program and a great band to co-exist. Just ask Noel Rash. BW Football has about 75-80 boys each year, and BW band has normally about the same. Together they have about half the student body sacrificing time, effort, and paying the price to be part of excellent programs. AD works hard to co-ordinate limited facilities and both programs make it work. BW competes against top notch programs weekly and tonight they won the Campbell County Band Festival Governor's Cup Grand Championship for the 4th or 5th year in a row. Beat 14 schools ranging from 1a to 6a.

Hate to see outsiders try to create conflict where it doesn't exist.

I will say this. I have a kid that plays sports and people complain about the band when they're at an event and they complain if the band doesn't show at an event. While I go to sporting events to see the game, I do like the atmosphere the band brings. Now with that said, they do need to refrain from playing during live action.
