Ryle 52 Campbell County 7

Well Grey I will agree with you that it takes talent to win. Old saying, "you cant make chicken salad out of chicken poop"! But not all of the players are naturally talented. It takes hard work on their part, hard work on the coaches part, Hard work on the parents part getting jimmy and johnny to practice pretty much all year any more.

When you see a change in coaches in any program you often have a period of euphoria that leads up to short term improvement in programs. Now what the new staff does to improve the long term success of a program is what needs to be seen! I remember a high school team i followed back in the 90's that went to the state finals. By the time they got to the semi finals they were on their 6th tailback of the season. He had started the season at nose tackle. It takes a lot of players and depth to make a long run in a season. That team had won 8 straight conference titles, 3 sectional title and two regionals. Big time for a small public school. (different state)

I remember it was either 2008 or 2009 that a 1A school up here had more players on their roster than Ryle did(and it wasn't Beechwood). Heck I think Ryle had as many coaches on the sideline as they did players.

I think ryle has had a great deal of sucess at the freshman level for a while.....it is starting to pay off in kids believing they can win. If they buy in to a system and win, winning breeds success, success usually breeds numbers and players want to play in that program......* See Highlands for the last how many decades * You can argue all you want about how a program gets successful, but when it does it is a testiment to the efforts of all involved in the program. Give them credit for the success. Wait and see how long it last and if a championship program for the long haul develops.

PS- the fact that Tanner Morgan moved in to Ryle has made a difference. I was told he grew up playing with most the boys on the Ryle team. Not sure why he left, but the fact that he is back at Ryle shoould not be a surprise, especially considering the head coach is somewhat known for coaching QB's if im not mistaken.

And Morgan Tanner plays an instrument too! The kid exudes talent.

More kids are playing now than ever because you have more kids attending the school. Again, it's not a magical formula. Boone County has been one of the fastest growing counties in the entire state over the past decade plus which is why they have 3 new schools in thata time (Cooper, Longbranch and the new school going in Ballyshannon subd.) When you have more kids to choose from you will have more talented athletes. That is simple math.

It's great their numbers are up but it isn't because of something magical that Ryle is doing. It's just the reality that more families have moved into the area in all the new subdivisions being built.

Cooper's numbers are the highest they've been the last 2 years than ever before also, it isn't anything special they are doing, it's simply more people in the area.

Talent is the reason Ryle is winning this year compared to years past. Tanner Morgan didn't all of a sudden become good, he moved into the Ryle school district this year, viola, talent wins.

BTW, Cooper's freshman #'s are way down this year.

Interesting. At the Ryle-B Station pratice game, Ryle was up 14-0 and got the ball back and switched in players including QB because it was a practice. That was a smart move by Ryle's staff to get experience for the backup even though Morgan was slicing and dicing the Station defense. So you think SK would pull Racke up 14-0 in a real game and let the backup get some practice? Neither would Ryle. After trailing the entire first half of the practice, BS racked up a bunch of points in the second half of the practice, particularly the 4th quarter.

Again, the eyeball test is what I'll go by, and that's why Ryle is going to beat SK this season, enjoy your next few weeks of being unbeaten UK#1 because SK's first loss is right around the corner. :taz:

Again please know of what you speak, Boone Co. #'s are down as well, what you are saying simple isn't the truth. :ohbrother:

Even Ryle's freshman team has fewer players on it's team this season then they have had over the last several years. You need to get your fact straight before you spout off about something that simple isn't true. Please, just go back and enjoy your CC message board, you have worn out your welcome here Jethro.

The school or the county? He didn't mention the school. If the county population is down I would be shocked as for years it was a population growth leader. I was under the impression that Ryle and Cooper were both growing pretty dramatically.

Man you Ryle fans contradict yourselves all the time...Are numbers up or down in the program???

Or again, is it just the three good classes?

I am on board with GreyFox. Talent wins. People want to win and when they see talent that they know will win, they get on board in every way. All that being said, I am putting Ryle's success this year in one place - Tanner Morgan. Without Morgan, Ryle no doubt loses to Covington Catholic. They probably lose to Lexington Catholic. The Highlands game would have been closer - I am not going to say Highlands wins but it would be closer. Tanner Morgan's execution in the passing game is worth at least 14 points every game over anyone else Ryle puts at QB.

Do you even know how to comprehend what is being said? We aren't talking about Boone Co HS. We are talking about the growth in the county as a whole and the Union area is growing by leaps and bounds. That is why Ryle and Coopes numbers are up.

Don't let facts get in your way. Aren't you the one who claimed Campbell County was the fastest growing county?

Not from here originally. What you say about a player of Tanner Morgan abilities are true. He does make Ryle a different team! That being said, the family brought him back where he grew up, he was gone 2 years.

Lets go back in a time machine, I was told back in the day, that Jared Lorenzen was a pretty good QB's at Highlands? Yes? Where did he grow up or live? I heard in the same neighborhood that Scott high school is in. Lets change sports, go to lets say basketball. Scott Draud lived in Erlanger? He make much of a difference for his team? You can go on and on. Good players make a difference, just because they went to school X or school Y it becomes and issue!!!! Come on Man!!!

That is ludicrous! So much for football being a team sport! Morgan is a great addition however the talent level is the main reason this team is 5-0! You have rb's making huge runs, lb's killing it, db's making monster tackles and hits, true grit athletes so talented to play both sides and a freshman kicker, by the time he's a senior, putting #'s in Ryle's history book! Oh, and a coaching staff to boot! Coach Engler would never say such a thing! You have to have all the pieces to the puzzle to be 5-0, and he does to make his run! SK has it too, Marksberry never speaks of his qb or rb in a singular sense, wise and successful coaches need all the pieces to be successful!

Not wanting to get in the middle of this discussion but do want to interject something about the Ryle freshman team. If they are down numerically, the team must have been huge last year. This year they platoon their players. I couldn't tell if any of them play both ways as starters. But when the offense comes out a fresh set of players goes in to play defense (and vice versa). Ryle Frosh have plenty of horses. Cusick is about as quick as any RB you'll see. Their QB is about 6' 3" and athletic. He can throw and he can pull it down and go around the end when needed. I could go on but suffice it to say they have talent in the pipeline.

As for support, there were 9 coaches on the sideline for their game against Boone Co. frosh.

Ryle has talent because of population increase and talented people in the county find a way to go to Ryle because they have a good program, as well. They are rivals with Boone Co and I don't like it right now, but I can't deny they have a good thing going.

Who and what are you responding to? I think the person that brought that up is just saying that he made a huge difference in this team. I don't see them saying that's a bad thing. The fact that he is there makes a huge difference. That's all they are saying. Without him, they are nowhere near as good. They aren't saying he shouldn't be there or lives anywhere else. No one cares. He's there and they are good. He is a big part of the success they are having. Not because they are working harder and "winning" in the offseason. They were fortunate enough to have a great player rejoin their team. And there's nothing wrong with that. But that is the difference maker in this year's team VS last year's team.
