Ryle 52 Campbell County 7

That is ludicrous! So much for football being a team sport! Morgan is a great addition however the talent level is the main reason this team is 5-0! You have rb's making huge runs, lb's killing it, db's making monster tackles and hits, true grit athletes so talented to play both sides and a freshman kicker, by the time he's a senior, putting #'s in Ryle's history book! Oh, and a coaching staff to boot! Coach Engler would never say such a thing! You have to have all the pieces to the puzzle to be 5-0, and he does to make his run! SK has it too, Marksberry never speaks of his qb or rb in a singular sense, wise and successful coaches need all the pieces to be successful!

So why was this team with talent 5-7 just one year ago? These kids you describe were there last year, right...except for Morgan.

Not wanting to get in the middle of this discussion but do want to interject something about the Ryle freshman team. If they are down numerically, the team must have been huge last year. This year they platoon their players. I couldn't tell if any of them play both ways as starters. But when the offense comes out a fresh set of players goes in to play defense (and vice versa). Ryle Frosh have plenty of horses. Cusick is about as quick as any RB you'll see. Their QB is about 6' 3" and athletic. He can throw and he can pull it down and go around the end when needed. I could go on but suffice it to say they have talent in the pipeline.

As for support, there were 9 coaches on the sideline for their game against Boone Co. frosh.

Ryle has talent because of population increase and talented people in the county find a way to go to Ryle because they have a good program, as well. They are rivals with Boone Co and I don't like it right now, but I can't deny they have a good thing going.

Trust me...I believe the other Ryle fans.

I love how guys become wise and sucessful coaches. Marksberry was at SK for 8 years with a .422 winning percentage before Chad Lawerence, Miles Simpson and a huge population growth came along. A under .500 coach for almost a decade including 1 and 2 win seasons is now wise and successful. He either had a very slow learning curve or some circumstances involving Jimmys and Joes changed.

Not from here originally. What you say about a player of Tanner Morgan abilities are true. He does make Ryle a different team! That being said, the family brought him back where he grew up, he was gone 2 years.

Lets go back in a time machine, I was told back in the day, that Jared Lorenzen was a pretty good QB's at Highlands? Yes? Where did he grow up or live? I heard in the same neighborhood that Scott high school is in. Lets change sports, go to lets say basketball. Scott Draud lived in Erlanger? He make much of a difference for his team? You can go on and on. Good players make a difference, just because they went to school X or school Y it becomes and issue!!!! Come on Man!!!

:ohbrother:

Bryson Warner was a genius in 06 when he had Scott Gray, Vince Murray and Kris Pridgen and then again in 2010 when he had Hempfel, Mullens and Elliot. I guess time will tell how much of a Genius Engler is and how much the Raiders out work everyone when this couple of year run has graduated.

So why was this team with talent 5-7 just one year ago? These kids you describe were there last year, right...except for Morgan.

No, it's not the same team! I am being told they played many seniors last year, Englers first year, so it was hard to go by. Kids this year making a difference that did not get to play last year are High, Chisholm, McGregor, Ashley, O'Hara, Molique, Scherr, Long, Pogliano, Sandmann, and a few others. So no, last years sophomore class were taken a backseat to the seniors, as high school sports sometimes goes.

Agree with you, but who's talking about 8 years ago. Just give credit where credit is due now, Marksberry has not one piece or two, but all the tools to make a good run!

You are right, Ryle's Freshmen Team suits up what appears to be 35 kids or so. Down from Last years 50 kids or so. However, this years Freshman team is still undefeated so the Talent is still there. The 4 past Freshman classes have only lost twice combined. The past three to this point are undefeated. I agree with all the talent threads. Morgan was a Union Raider as well until he left for his Hazard stint. Coach Engler's offense is a fit for this group of skilled players. Coach Wolf keeps churning out Defensive players that are undersized, but always seem to get the job done when need be. They are definitely a 2nd half defense. But it definitely is Talent driven success.

Great Post, drop your mic and walk away !! Well said !!

Who and what are you responding to? I think the person that brought that up is just saying that he made a huge difference in this team. I don't see them saying that's a bad thing. The fact that he is there makes a huge difference. That's all they are saying. Without him, they are nowhere near as good. They aren't saying he shouldn't be there or lives anywhere else. No one cares. He's there and they are good. He is a big part of the success they are having. Not because they are working harder and "winning" in the offseason. They were fortunate enough to have a great player rejoin their team. And there's nothing wrong with that. But that is the difference maker in this year's team VS last year's team.[/QUOT

I=All I was saying is that good/great players make a difference for their team. Doesn't matter if its at Ryle, Highland, NCC, Lloyd...speaking of which.. Kudos to Mr. Johnson getting it done for the Vikings..... You have to have good / great players to have success. Lots of them. You think Trinity doesn't have players come in and out each season just to be a part of the success. Or ask Fayette County schools if good players do not make a difference in Lexington catholics success year in and year out. Now the question is how are they being developed and how long will the "programs" up cycle last! Public schools have a tougher time doing that than privates, or even schools with an open enrollment system of some type were kids from out of district can go to school there. Ultimately aren't we asking if Ryle is a one hit wonder this year or will its program become a Rock star with staying power!

I don't think Ryle is a "one hit wonder". I think they should be pretty good for awhile or at least is sounds like it.

My question is why aren't they every year? I understand they can have up and downs if you are comparing to the state...but in NKY, there is no reason they shouldn't be one of the top teams EVERY year.

But I also think that getting Morgan is a huge reason why they are 5-0 vs some other record this year. He was the difference maker they needed. They had some of the foundation already, but gaining an efficient passer like Morgan escalated them to one of the top teams in NKY...in my opinion.

Now in my opinion, I think the jury is still out on whether the top dog in NKY can compete with the rest of the state this year. SK and Ryle look good around here, but I'm not sure what that looks like in other places. And I know that the BS game is going to come up, but just a year ago when HHS played BS and won in a very close game, SK people were talking about "HHS must be down this year because Lexington Schools are not good in Football". Now all of a sudden they are a great team. Playing BS and beating them still does not prove to me that NKY is ready to compete...and I don't mean with Male and T.

Serious question to the Ryle fans...what's Ryle's record this year (to this point) if they don't have Morgan?

If Morgan is not there, everyone loads up on the run and stuffs it. While the last few years, all the way back to Hempel, and including last year, they were not a passing team at all. Just because you are in the shotgun with two or more wide receivers, that doesn't make you a passing team. Last year Ryle supporters were on here talking about how things would be different if they had a good Qb, they would be more balanced offensively. Now they have a very good one and the offense is clicking because of the passing game. The RB would struggle big time this year if not for the Qb play because upfront they are not that good. Last years OL was much better, IMO, than this years. Difference is this year defenses have to play honest and some are much more worried about Ryle's passing game than running game.

Before anyone says if not for the OL he wouldn't have time to throw, well on the quick passing game, if the OL gets in the DL was that is all the time you need. If they stood there and got ran over that is enough to slow them down on the quick passing game. That is why the Qb only takes one step back to make his read and throw on the quick stuff.

I am on board with GreyFox. Talent wins. People want to win and when they see talent that they know will win, they get on board in every way. All that being said, I am putting Ryle's success this year in one place - Tanner Morgan. Without Morgan, Ryle no doubt loses to Covington Catholic. They probably lose to Lexington Catholic. The Highlands game would have been closer - I am not going to say Highlands wins but it would be closer. Tanner Morgan's execution in the passing game is worth at least 14 points every game over anyone else Ryle puts at QB.

Let me clarify my post above. I can understand why several people disagree. I can see how people inferred I was saying Ryle is a one man team. That is not what I meant. I think Ryle is probably 3-2 with someone other than Morgan at QB. My intent was to point out that Morgan is a big difference maker and by far the key to Ryle being 5-0. That is what I was trying to say when I commented that Ryle's success is due to Morgan.

I will further make my point. Without Morgan, I think Cooper beats Ryle. Without Morgan, Simon Kenton would beat Ryle by 2 TD's or more. With Morgan, I think Ryle beats Cooper and has a chance at beating Simon Kenton. Morgan is the difference between a good 7-3 or 6-4 team and a possible undefeated team. There is enough talent there to go 7-3 without Morgan. No way there is enough talent to go undefeated without Morgan.
