I think it's more than that. It's a total culture change. They don't overwork kids and have them beat each other to death in practice everyday. They train smart over the summer and are cognizant of preventing injuries. Numbers are up. That helps add talent.

Wait a minute...conflicting stories between you and Fear the Nation. He told me their outcome is from outworking others (specifically HHS in one post). If that is true and they are outworking HHS, then they are being overworked. Because I know the HHS kids get pushed to the limits any time they come for any kind of football practice or training. But now you're telling me they have backed off that a little. (which is not a bad thing at all!) Just hearing two different stories.

It's definately coaching, I mean Bryson Warner beat Highlands and lost in the State Semi's to arguably one of the best Trinity teams ever while winning coach of the year. He was awful! Jimmys and Joes are up your coach of the year, Jimmys and Joes are down your fired.

No Union Raider praise?

There are a lot of factors. The Union Raiders are one positive factor. The biggest difference with the Union Raiders is now kids are able to play at every age level. There are not a lot of kids standing around as 5th and 7th graders watching 6th and 8th graders play and hoping to play a meaningless 5th quarter. The UR is not the only factor to the upswing in talent, but it is a factor.

Many Ryle fans have alluded to these next 2-3 classes being really good. So was it the change in coaching or that the talent has started to arrive on the scene again...supporting the statement that it comes and goes?

Both, different system, good classes. Not that the other classes weren't good but these are we dare to say especially loaded groups.

They work more on quality and technique. They don't scrimmage and hit each other for hours every single day any more. Faster paced practices. Kids get more reps. Hit the weights more. That's where we are winning. Conditioning and the kids being dedicated in the weight room.

Or you have over 1700 kids in your school and you put together 3 really good classes in a row! With that many kids, why are they just now really getting competitive or returning to be competitive? You're the 16th biggest school in the state and not in a low income area. Why should they ever be down in NKy?

That would be like Highlands merging with NCC and Newport!

We have always been competitive. We were only down 2 maybe three years. No way we can have the championships like HHS in 6a. The lower divisions don't have the monsters that 6A does. When you have the likes of Trinity, St X. who gets 1300-1500 boys and handpicked athletes it's going to be tough sledding. When an out of district athlete can come to your school and you are not entirely forced into who you have but have the ability to have a who you can get, it makes a difference. Play in district kids instead of getting 3 or 4 Allstars extra and then we'll see. If we could take a good nucleus and handpicked a handful of athletes you would see a difference.

I didn't say championships. I said competitive. All the NKy 6a teams always go straight to T and X as their lack of success. But they aren't making it to T and X. So that argument isn't relevant. I'm saying Ryle should be making runs and at the top of NKy every year. Not occasionally. I'm a Ryle fan...in all sports. I really am. I just for the life of me can't figure out why they don't dominate every sport in NKy.

They aren't competitive now because they work harder than anyone (in your opinion, but I'd ask how you know that). They are good now because they've had 3 strong classes in a row, which leads to more options, more internal competition for spots, and more depth! That's why they are good right now. My question is what aren't the always this good in NKY. Forget the super district!

Haven't been here long enough to answer that. 8 years is my knowledge base. Somethings you can share, some you can't.

It has everything to do with talent period.

People trying to convince themselves that Ryle does something magical that no one else does or says they out work everyone else etc. are just kidding themselves and trying to sell themselves a load of bunk.

It has everything to do with talent level at the school this year.

I enjoy when people sit back and try to sell the rest of us that the reason for success is some secret formula that Ryle has figured out and no one else has. If that is the case then Ryle a just discovered what Cooper and others already knew on how to be successful. The secret is, there isn't secret.

Continue telling us it has everything to do with the UR and nothing to do with talent and I'll convince you that the real secret is in the union water.

You guys don't get it. Talent is part of the equation. But look at their numbers. They have more kids playing now than ever before. They play more kids. They are building a program. Has any other coach ever been fired 3 years after playing in a state title game? What they did worked when they were crazy talented in 2010 but didn't work when the studs left. If they'd been playing more kids and running their program correctly he would have still been there because they would have won more games. What they are doing now will set them up for the long haul. They'll be High's and lows, but I doubt they'll be below .500 again anytime soon.

Hearing talk in Union, biggest difference is there is a 3-4 nasty headed running game monster on Ryle's team that people are having a hard time stopping. The Chisholm kid (remember his name) could be their best true rb this year, and I believe he is just a sophomore! Add to that some great receivers and athletes on both sides! For them to go far into the playoffs, it takes a team, not a few good players here and there, a full team, including the guys on the sideline. This is what Ryle has not had in years!!

All 4 RB's are really good. Chisholm is no surprise. Great kid, great work ethic, great attitude, great field vision. Scores a TD, hands the ball to the Ref like he's been there before. Runs over to his lineman and congrat's them all.

Ryle hasn't any played a tough team yet. Well they did scrimmage Bryan Station and Station handled them but other than that the jury is still out.

Is there a most ironic post ever icon?

More kids are playing now than ever because you have more kids attending the school. Again, it's not a magical formula. Boone County has been one of the fastest growing counties in the entire state over the past decade plus which is why they have 3 new schools in thata time (Cooper, Longbranch and the new school going in Ballyshannon subd.) When you have more kids to choose from you will have more talented athletes. That is simple math.

It's great their numbers are up but it isn't because of something magical that Ryle is doing. It's just the reality that more families have moved into the area in all the new subdivisions being built.

Cooper's numbers are the highest they've been the last 2 years than ever before also, it isn't anything special they are doing, it's simply more people in the area.

Talent is the reason Ryle is winning this year compared to years past. Tanner Morgan didn't all of a sudden become good, he moved into the Ryle school district this year, viola, talent wins.
