X was the #3 team in 6A last week.

They were also #1 in Courier Journal's LIT rankings.

I have heard one week these 2 teams are down the next week they are up? Which is it?

Everyone talks of needing to make changes, what should those changes be? I am interested to hear the thoughts of the many that get on these very airwaves and talk the talk, now lets walk the walk and discuss those changes.

The QB position for X will determine the success of this team. He plays well it allows others to perform at a high level, he doesn't play well and you get a performance like the one against Central. A lot of pressure, but that's part of the position.

My opinion of what changes need to occur does not matter. My opinion of who needs to change does not matter. Ultimately it comes down to the coaches who have worked with these boys for years to put them in the spots to maximize the potential of this roster.

 

What is obvious is that if no changes do occur, we can expect to see the same results. Sure the schedule lightens up a bit in three weeks and the Birds can put a few W's on record, but no one at HHS will be satisfied with a couple of playoff games and an early exit.

Highlands fans keep saying they are down. They have over 80 kids this year. The past few years they had alot of injuries and still won with younger inexperienced kids. Maybe they need Dale to help out some way?

For me, Beal and Daugherty need to go both ways...in spots. And unfortunately, Hebel too. Maybe not all over the field, but he needs to be in the game on defense for big stops. Looks like they started some of that this past week. I know some have asked how to get someone like Beal the ball. I say pitch outs, slants, quick curls, quick passes to the outside to get him in space and 1 on 1 in space and maybe even a reverse. With Daugherty, you use him for tough yardage and a blocking back. Kid is tough and mean and this team doesn't have much of that in my opinion.

 

After all this, there isn't an easy answer. I get it. I just think all the best athletes need to be on the field somehow. I know you change and sacrifice some things. I get it. But I think it's time to show the cards and be all in. There are other things, but I'll stop there.

They have no clue who are what players are going to play until that day. They all seem to be a bit confused. Back in the day you would have practice twice a day that just doesn't happen now.

Really? I saw the exact opposite. I couldn't believe how soft we looked. The refusal to lower the pads and make a hit by the defense is the most concerning thing I saw, and was the worst by a Highlands team for as long as I can remember. If they play that way against St X, they will get beat by 50 if not more.

I think X bounces back huge. I predict a running clock.

So give your suggestions then since you seem to have all the answers. Worst by a Highlands team? Really, seems like an offensive line was called that a few years ago and a poster took abuse for it, but at the time it was probably pretty true.

 

Also define "soft" for me will you please? Lack of body size and skill level have little to do with being "soft" if you ask me.

For the first time in many Years the Birds do not have the best athletes on the field. In the past several years this has helped them beat the 6A teams as they could out Athlete them. This year unfortunately you are seeing the big schools wear them down. Cooper and Ryle both exploded in the Second half after relatively competitive first halves. Saw St. X play Henry Clay and was not as impressed as I thought I would be as I thought they may challenge this year. Overall though I expect St. X to follow suit and wear Highlands down and run away in the end 35-21.
