Final. Sloppy, defensive struggle. Both teams are better than they played tonight.

Congrats to BG. Oboro had opportunities in the 4th but credit BG defense.

OHS defense gives up 10 - great job

OHS gives up 5 to 6 TO's - besides the pick six Owensboro drove down to the BG 25 in first half and gives up an unforced fumble which was the most costly IMO.

BG great defense too as always. Next time will be on the turf at Rash;)

Great special teams coverage by BG also. OHS great job pressuring QB.

These may be the best 2 in 5A. I thought this May be a defensive game and it was.

My one complaint - no play clock on the field? What is this 1990?

We don't have them at Boyle either. Danville has them though. I love them. I wish Boyle had them.

I got lambasted for putting Owensboro at #1 in my 5A rankings last week. Moving BG up to #1 , but I don't think my rankings were that unreasonable.

These 2 should meet again on the turf at Rash in Oboro. You can't turn it over that many times and beat a BG. However, I thought Oboro had one of the best defenses in the state and I think that showed with 10 points given up. If OHS can straighten some things out they have a chance to go far. Neither team probably thought they played well, but that had a lot to do with the defenses.

So I think you were OK to put Oboro up there - on the road and lose by 3. And they had the ball a couple times in BG territory in the 4th. Oh so close.

BG daily news tweet... BG only scores 3 in final 42 mins. Defense gave OHS a chance, BG defense wins it.

This wasn't a pretty game to watch, but anytime the Purps and Devils meet up its always intense. Neither team probably played their "A" game but both defenses flew to the ball. OHS had way too many turnovers and BG certainly missed some scoring chances.

That said, I think OHS has the most room to grow. OHS has completely changed their offense from last year, and the growing pains are evident. QB Zach Gross had 4 turnovers tonight (3 int 1 fumble) but there were good things like throwing the 25 yard td to Jahlil Barret and good runs out of the zone read. I think once Gross settles in and the line gets more cohesive I look for OHS to make a huge jump.

BG still has room for improvement as well and I'm sure the Purps will do it. I FULLY expect to see a rematch of this game in the playoffs. When that happens, will it be at Rash?

I'd like to see a run down of how many schools have them. I'd say its 70/30 teams that don't. Very few places I go (and I go to lots) have them. Although I will agree with @PurplePride92 that they are nice and I wish more teams did have on field play clocks.

OHS had a costly delay of game in the 4th.

D58, last year district 2 had the home field if seeds were similar, BG hosted Graves in 5a and if you remember OHS would have travelled to Franklin simpson if they beat Mville. Both FS and BG were district 2. I think the rule is odd districts in odd years. So if OHS wins district 1, I think round 3 will be at Rash.

BG has too nice a place and a top tier football program, plenty of money, buy the clocks

Just got home from this one! As D58 said it wasn't a pretty game to watch, but if you like defensive football you got a treat. I'm sure both coaches can use this game to work with his teams to get better. Oh and tip of the hat to Coach Fallin, thought the Red Devils didn't seem to miss a beat really. I truly think these are the best 2 teams in 5A and I know Pulaski is good, but I saw these defenses tonight and thats where I'll stand. If these 2 aren't playing again in November I'll be shocked. Both teams missed opportunities but it was a defensive night. I'm for the clocks too!

Turnovers are killing OHS so far, hope to see round 2 in November.

If you had told me OHS turns it over 5 times and only loses by a FG, i would have been shocked. The Devils defense is the real deal. Its hard not to look ahead to a potential playoff matchup between these two down the road. OHS is due for a win in this matchup. Its been a long time.

Total yards

OHS 317

BG 208

BG held to 74 yds passing
