Bluegrasspreps' Class 3A Rankings 08-24-15

Well I don't know if you can call it a win. Boyle was ahead 20-12 after 3rd qt then they split the field and put JV on one end and Freshman on the other.
Scrimmage results are useless in any discussion. I can't praise or condemn anyone based on a scrimmage. Sounds like they were doing something really beneficial for the younger guys by splitting up like that. That will pay dividends.

I total agree. Yea we left after the 3rd qt and we felt that both teams were not showing a lot either.

I'm consistent. I never use out of state teams in any sport to judge KY teams. It's always too hard to get a good reading of just how good the out of state teams.

Nobody was using either of those opponents to judge Belfry either. You poo-poo'd on Belfry's schedule as weak, and a few of us are trying to let you know that those two teams make it much stronger. You need to know what you are talking about before you say neither of those teams will give Belfry any competition. We are just educating you. :D

You can't dismiss teams as weak just because they are not from KY. Did McCallie TN make Bowling Green's schedule tougher than a Southwestern would have been? Did Cincy Elder make Highlands schedule tougher than Ryle would have? Does Colerain OH or Brentwood TN make Trinity's schedule tougher than any in state opponent would? Of course they do.

Of course, none of that has anything to do with rankings in Week 0. But time will tell and the wheat will be separated from the chaff. It should be a fun process to watch.

Out of state teams mean nothing to me at all. Go check last year's basketball rankings when everyone was talking about how Wilmington(OH) was a such a good team and that CovCath should have got a bump in the ratings as a result. I don't ever use out of state teams to judge an in-state team. Does it make those teams better? Sure. If they pick the right one. Does it tell me how good a team is? Not at all.

FWIW, since PP doesn't believe in Out of State Competition

neutral field

[2015] Knoxville Catholic (Knoxville, TN) 34, [2015] Boyle County (Danville, KY) 21

neutral field

[2015] Cabell Midland (Ona, WV) 28, [2015] Boyle County (Danville, KY) 27

I don't disagree with your premise ATLCat, but how can any computer have anywhere close to the data needed to make a score prediction without a body of work? 1 game can't reveal anything close to what an actual score may be.

Keep in mind my intent was not to say either team was better than Boyle or would beat Boyle...but I was simply trying to show that both teams Belfry was playing were going to be top flight competition.

You can choose to ignore the information available if you want, but that doesn't mean there is no validity to it. With all the info available to us nowadays, it is easy to form an opinion. Heck, Cabell Midland WV is located closer to me than 75% of the teams in KY and I know at least as much about them as I do a lot our KY teams. I will never see a ton of the teams involved in our rankings so I have to rely on what I can read online and make comparisons based on prior and current performance. State lines don't hinder that at all.

With that system, did Trinity even make the top ten of your 6A ranking last year? :whistling:

You'd have to ask someone involved with the 6A rankings. I don't do football rankings. I just give opinions on them. :D

So how does WV football compare to KY football? Better overall? Worse overall? How is Cabell's district compared to Belfry's district? If Cabell was in KY what classification are they and where would they fall in the rankings in that classification in KY? For those of us that don't live on the state line how can we form an informed opinion about Cabell without knowing any of that and without seeing them play like you can? Take a Belfry fan's word for it? That's like you all taking my word for it that Central Hardin is better than any team on Belfry's schedule. Y'all won't take my word for that though, will you? :D

See how that works???

I'll play.. if nothing else you can say you learned little something a long the way today

So how does WV football compare to KY football?

Not as strong as KY overall... a lot fewer teams and a lot less bigger schools. Generally speaking WV will have 4 or 5 really strong 3A schools (biggest class) that is on par with the best 5A and 6A teams in Kentucky outside of Trinity, X, Male, Highlands. Then the drop off is steep and fast. Traditionally the top teams are Capital, South Charleston, Cabell Midland, Martinsburg, and George Washington.

Same can be said for the smaller schools... WV will have a couple 2A and a couple 1A schools that would translate to Top 5 teams in the Bluegrass. Top teams are Wayne, Bridgeport, Wheeling Central Catholic, and Williamstown.

If Cabell was in KY what classification are they and where would they fall in the rankings in that classification in KY?

CM is the largest school in WV and would be one of the largest 6A Public Schools in Kentucky. They would be in the 7-12 range in 6A. The best comparison would be Simon Kenton or Cooper.

How is Cabell's district compared to Belfry's district?

Non-Existent.. West Virginia's system is different than Kentucky's and their playoffs are seeded. Most teams play in a "Conference" to hep ensure games and competition... CM plays in the best Conference in WV and it would compare to the new NKY 6A Districts.

The internet and technology really has changed the landscape of High School football. Hudl, Youtube, and CPU Rankings have came a long way. Plus considering a school like Cabell Midland is within a 15 minute drive of numerous KY towns and BGP fanbases it isn't exactly far fetched that numerous posters such as some people in this thread have been able to see them perform live.

If you want to use the "ignorance is bliss" defense and refuse to accept the testimony of people from fanbases not even involved in this discussion then knock yourself out. I get it.. in your opinion Boyle plays a tougher schedule than Trinity because those GCL teams and Tennessee private schools are the same as playing a "BYE" week. I will be sure to send a letter to Coach Haywood to opt out of their contract with CM and Knoxville Catholic and try to play teams from Central KY who probably will not win their respective regions like Collins, Danville, Lincoln County, Dunbar, and Anderson County. He obviously forgot how to schedule entering this season. Nevermind the fact he has 5 teams who opened the season in their respective class' Top 5.

Take a Belfry fan's word for it?
This isn't some random homer Belfry fan, this is me. And you and I both know I ain't never lied to you and I ain't about to start now. I have no reason to, especially over some unimportant side issue like this that has nothing to do with the thread topic.

For those of us that don't live on the state line how can we form an informed opinion about Cabell without knowing any of that and without seeing them play like you can?
You can take the word of informed, trustworthy people like ATL and myself.

Regardless I think you are just being obtuse and at this point in the game this issue has nothing to do with the rankings. We have now taken this thread so far off topic I'm not sure we can get back.

What is the ceiling for Elizabethtown this season? Chief district competition looks like Adair County and regional competition is likely Paducah Tilghman. They'd likely have to win a regional final in Paducah, but a state semifinal against someone like Boyle, Central, or Catholic would be at E-town. Can they make it to Bowling Green?

It will be an uphill battle for Etown to beat Tilghman and then either LexCath or Boyle in successive weeks. There is a lot of excitement on that program, but I don't know if they are ready for that gauntlet yet.

To me their ceiling is "Darkhorse" or "Spoiler".

I really like what I am hearing this season and there is no denying they have some brain power wearing the headsets. They have enough individual pieces to be dangerous in a single game setting and Brown will maximize what he gets out of his defense.

Do I see them stringing together successive wins over Caldwell, Tilghman, and a Boyle County? No I do not. Could they end someone's season early.. maybe even a couple people's seasons? Maybe.

My biggest question with Etown will be depth. Will they have enough depth when the bumps and bruises add up or a top team gets in a phsyical war.
